According to my Chilton's book and this site https://www.superbrightleds.com/veh...hicle-led-lights?make=28&model=1148&year=1970 both my front and back marker lights should be a blade type 161 bulb. I have the 161 blade bulb in the front, but the back is a 1895 which i think is listed as an interior dash light? I looked at the wiring and it doenst look spliced or replaced. The lights seem to work, just seemed strange to me. Is this a normal thing? I have attached a crappy pic of the bulb chart from the book.
The bayonet based #1895 is a older version of wedge #194 & are two candle power vs one for 161. In other words the 1895 is brighter. I believe my '69 Fairlane has 1895 while Comet has #161 or 194.
I just stick in the 194, since I have a box full of them from all the instrument clusters I have had over the years - they are 40% brighter than a 161. I don't remember ever pulling any 1895's out of a Maverick or Comet side marker - just in the heater control
I just thought it was weird that everything I read and see says the blade type bulbs front and back. Yet I have tiny socket 1895 bulbs in the back.
Edit, I see Craig beat me. It's the sort of thing that happens, often a early vs late build. Is your car a '69.5 or a true '70? First wedge tail/brake light 3157 bulb I ever saw was in my mom's '86 Grand Marquis. Owners manual listed 1157. The car was built so late it already had some '87 parts on it. The spark plug wires were also dated 1987. She ordered it new, was built a couple weeks befor '86 production ended. The '69 Fairlane I just bought (built July 1 1969) has the round solenoid(like my '72 Comet), while the '69 Cobra(built nine months earlier), has the old style canister type Ford used for years.
The '70 Maverick has black engine compartment, '71 switched to body color. In '72 & '73 Dearborn assembly built Mavericks with black engine compartments, while other plants were body color. Models are not always built same.
