Need some help with identification of some mystery wires. I have a light blue wire with a white stripe and 90 degree connector on the end. It is in the vicinity of the ash tray so I'm assuming cigarette lighter. However, this car was not equiped with a lighter. I'll assume all 74 mavericks got the same harness?

Second, the plug with one red and one black wire. It comes through the wire conduit just behind the dash and must have plugged into something on the passenger side. I don't see anything that it plugs into. I know this car was equipped with the interlock system (one year only) but that has been disabled. The red wire is hot with the key on or off.

I've checked the 74 wiring diagram but can't seem to find the plug info. I'm quite sure the lt blue white wire is the cig lighter. I also have a problem with color! Does the black wire have white or pink stripes?

    Thanks!

I believe the blue is for the lighter. The other looks like the plug for the key in the ignition buzzer.

74 Maverick/Comet, at least 2 different harnesses, one without AC and one with AC.
Key Ignition Buzzer, is Red with Pink Stripe and Black with Pink Hash Marks most of the time that annoying little buzzer is removed along with the Seat Belt Interlock yellow box!

Thanks for the help. I certainly couldn't see the pink hash marks on the red wire. And, I wasn't sure about the black wire! Now that I know the wire colors the ignition buzzer makes sense when looking at the wiring diagram. The interlock box was still in there so I bypassed the ignition/starting feature and removed the box.

One more related question, maybe I'm not looking carefully enough, but where is the interlock "box" indicated on the 74 wiring diagram?

Those diagrams are only "generic" version of the harness and the colour codes are not quite correct, but comparing with my original Ford Wiring diagrams, the interlock is on page 2 and labelled "Printed Circuit Connector" about 1/2 way down on the right hand side. Should be 11 wires to the connector, which is grey in colour. The colour coding is not correct, but still can be used as reference to follow the routing.
Original Ford Wiring diagrams for 74 Maverick/Comet are 5 pages, actually 3 pages, double sided and 17x31 paper. Much easier to see and follow!!
The original diagram has on location C18 and C323 Connector, page 3.......

Dyent, the printed circuit connector, isn't that the connector that plugs into the back of the gauge cluster? Would be nice to have the 5page diagram.

The connector that plugs into back of gauges has 14 pins, I'll see if I can find it on those 2 diagrams you are looking at......

more you look at that generic diagram, more confusing it gets :hmmm:
I actually have my 74 Comet w/o AC out and checked both connectors,
the gauge connector does have 14 pins and all are used, the seat belt interlock also has 14 pins, but only 11 are used, in a 5/6 configuration,
5 one side and 6 on the other. This would match up with that "Printed Circuit Connector", but the colour coding is wrong. You would have to follow its route to see where they all go.

    will send you PM

On both my 73&74 wiring diagrams, Light Green w/Purple Hash marks (LG-P-H) to A/C Compressor Clutch Solenoid.......

thanks for posting this. I was just trying to figure out what the blue 90 degree connector was for. Saved me some time.
