1974 mercury comet 302. My turn signals are extremely finicky. I have seen both of them work all the way through, but I would have to hold the lever in "The right spot". I have the hazard flasher currently out because it was busted. I replaced my turn signal cam because it was was cracked and missing some pieces. During this process, I cleaned up some of the gunk built up in the housing, and cleaned the connections with fine sandpaper and contact cleaner. When I went to test the signals, they were worse than before, with the steering wheel on, and off. I can not seem to figure out why my signals are so bad. My state only requires a safety inspection, and turn signals are one of the required criteria. I am thinking that along with the cam, I also need to replace the plate underneath the cam that houses all the copper connections and attached wires, but I do not know the name/part number etc. Any help or suggestions as to what my next step would be would be greatly appreciated!

I was actually just doing some more research and that's kindof what I was thinking. Just happy they're not more expensive than they are!
