I am a new member recently joined, My first car 8 years ago when I was 15 was a 1973 Mercury Comet GT (#s matching), I later discovered why I was able to buy it so cheap, the rockers down was rotted, I ended up spending all winter with my dad putting new rear frame rails and crossmember and new floor pans in the car. it was still a questionable body, I ended up selling it the next summer when I found a MINT 1973 Ford Maverick for sale, the original cardboard under lay was still under the carpet. It is a base model Maverick first purchased by an elderly lady in Toronto Canada, the story I have is that she rarely drove the car and kept it in underground parking for over 30 years until the next owners purchased the car, an elderly couple, they did some repairs, repainted the car with the original color, baby blue, reupholstered the bench seats with a corduroy material that faded in the sun, it also has the bobcat taillights in it. I then purchased the car from them with 54 000 original miles on it for a fair price. the car still has the original #s matching I6 200CI engine and 3 spd auto trans, it is a 2 dr body. since I have purchased it, ive owned and still have it after 7 years I had another hood painted and installed, did a 1970 mustang bucket seat conversion (higher back and only cost me $50 for the pair) aftermarket steering wheel. I'm looking to finally make it an awesome project, after careful considerations and deliberations, I have decided to do a Bullitt style Maverick since the Shelby clones have been popular recently, I love to do unsuspecting projects.

I would love to hear your opinions on this idea.

I believe to make it a true bullitt style, I'm going to replace the rear tail light panel and lower valence with one out of the 1968 mustang GT, install the 68' mustang upper and lower consoles, and last but not least, a built 302 backed with a 4 spd toploader transmission. to give it the Maverick touch I will be looking for the grabber hood as well.

Cheers and I hope many can help just as I will be updating on this forum!

Welcome to the site from northeast Ohio!!!

I believe a Bullitt Maverick is a good idea. No 17" or 18" Torque Thrusts please, stay with the vintage style.

might I suggest a 5-speed instead of the 4-speed, it will be more highway friendly.

I agree -- only way to go if using car on the highway with any regularity.

Yes and no. I think a Bullit "tribute" Maverick would be cool, with the Sherwood Green paint, Torque Thrust wheels, blacked out grill, etc.
But Mustang tail lights on a Maverick is goofy. Just get a Mustang instead of a wanna-be Mustang.

    Agreed on the tail lights.
Don't forget, no Maverick script or emblems on a proposed Bullit.
