Quit playing with EGR junk and ditch the cast iron 2V stuff. If you are going to the trouble of putting in a 302, then add an aluminum 4V manifold and carb.

This would be an opportune time to invest in Aluminum Heads and Headers ?

Tabs downwards and flat side facing towards the front, so frame mount in picture with tab down, is suppose to be on RH of car........mine had RH/LH stamped on mounts.

Been super as* busy with the CV-19 thing. Im just glad i still have a job, at least for now. But I am trying to get back to the Maverick. My question is this...
How high do you think I need to jack up the front end of the Mav to get the Hooker long tube header up and in there?

I am going to find out next weekend I hope. I had my headers unbolted from both the engine and the exhaust pipes when I pulled my engine out, and the passenger side was STILL causing a bind when I tried separating the engine and torque converter. I am not looking forward to it at all. I might even place the headers in the engine bay before lowering it into place. I had to remove the spark plugs to even dream about lifting the engine past the flange. It will be interesting, and I expect my engine bay paint and header pant will get into a cat fight of their own. Maybe I have the wrong headers? I dont know....they came already bolted to the engine and there was no transmission. Putting in the trans was an incredible chore too...and after seeing how I had to fight the bind pulling the motor, I know now I was fighting it with the tranny install. If I ever own another one of these cars, it will NEVER get headers. Lol...I am too old for that nonsense. I hope someone else can relay a kinder, gentler experience with them.

When I installed my Hooker 6901s on my Comet I had no issues what-so-ever. No lifting or tilting of the engine. The idler arm must be unbolted from the frame rail and the starter removed. Perhaps I was just fortunate.

I lifted both front and back of my Comet and had it on jack stands. The front really has to be up high to allow the headers to slide directly up along side of the engine on both sides. I've removed and reinstalled the driver side header since original installation. Once again, no problems.

That was my experience. I know other members have not had such a good experience.

I had to raise mine about 24 inches to slide mine in. Use blocks and be careful.

So let's pretend I don't know what an idler are is. How would someone, you know who doesn't for future reference, find it and unbolt it?

The idler arm is on the passenger side opposite of the steering box. It's held to the frame with two bolts.

I installed my motor yesterday and put the headers in place before motor installation. I used some wire to hold the front up and put a jackstand under the back of them. My transmission was also in place supported by the mounts and a floor jack. Installing a C4 with headers already in, at least in my world, was something I never want to repeat, as the headers I have turn in slightly under the car and even with them unbolted they dont let the tranny in unless it is rotated 90*to get passed them and unrotated up in there. It sucked. I suppose the smarter thing would be to take headers out to install a tranny? I am getting smarter as things progress, but learning sure has its own cost.
