Hello! Is anyone on here familiar with earlier Comets? I have a '63. Black-cherry electric paint, vinyl interior, late 250 cu.-in. six.

    Welcome to the forum!
I believe there is a specific section on the forum for Comets prior to 1970.

You will basically find that this forum is exclusively for the 1971-1977 Mercury Comet, which is on the same body as the Maverick. Lots of other forums out there for your year of Comet, as well as Facebook pages/groups.

How far East are you in PA?. I'm @ 40 miles East of PA in NY's Hudson Valley.. I also have a unique MEL styled 60-63 Comet . Like your '63, my '61 has a later 70's genre straight six.

There were very little design changes between the 60 Falcon/Comet and the '77 Maverick/Comet. Dimensionally, the Falcon unibody platform morphed into 60's Mustang and 70's Mav/Com/Granada/Fairmont(briefly) ) Only with the FOX body was the Drivetrain, Suspension and Cabin design change.

My '74 Maverick wears a '76 Comet Hood, front clip...

    My '61 Comet uses :

'65 Mustang for frame repair parts, steering gear, Rad support, etc

'71 Maverick Spindles, Rear End, DS, Gas Tank, Electrical, etc

    '78 Granada 250 Six

    '91 Mustang T5

    Have fun

    Hello,

I'm about half an hour west of Allentown, which is a pretty good hike from NY. Thanks for the links! Since you have a '61, maybe you can answer my question: Is there any other place to find the VIN other than the driver's-side fender? I'm about to retitle the car as a classic and want to fix the VIN (the warranty number was used). Throughout the car's life, the VIN was rendered illegible, probably to aggressive paint removal.

    Thanks!

    James
