Anyone running into this problem? I've went through 3 of these in the last 6months. All the same issue exactly. Also starts seeping oil around the top where the flange is pressed together but it's also very possible it's coming from the weep holes. I'm not sure of the brand this one is but it does have a lifetime warranty. Got it from Napa iirc. Any recommendations on a better way to go as I'm tired of this. Are Edelbrock pumps worth the money or no?
Seems like you have just had a run of bad luck to get that many. If they will replace it take it back to NAPA - at least that is free, other than your time and frustration. For what its worth, I have a Holley fuel pump on my V8 and I really like it. Looking at the picture - is it possible the oil is coming from your pressure sending unit extension tube and just dribbling over onto the fuel pump to make it look like the pump is the trouble? Check all over that sending unit tube for oil. Maybe make sure the fuel pump gasket is not leaking too.
It's unlikely 3 units are leaking, but it's a possibility. I would get under the car and see if oil is running along bottom of ext. tube dripping on the pump; If so, that may be where the problem lies. Looking at the pic. the top of the ext. looks clean. I've always had a very minor leak around my oil pressure fitting visible around bottom of the pump, nothing like I see in your situation.
I think the same thing but everything else is bone clean. Both times before when I changed the pump the oil mess stopped. I think I'll use my GoPro and a flashlight and go drive later today and see if that seepage is visible. This is frustrating for sure. Oil smells clean though.
The Performance Carters don't have leak issues. The one on my 428 has been has there since '92. That said, there are cheapish fuel pumps on both my Comet & Fairlane, so far no leak.
I've used baby powder to look for leaks too. The powder sticks to surfaces and will start turning color as it soaks up the oil. Surface must be super clean before applying the powder.
If you do decide to change to another fuel pump the edelbrock one is good. I have been running mine now for 4 years and 15k miles later no issues at all.
I had an Edelbrock 6-valve pump on mine for a short time. Shot oil out the holes in in the top and went all over the driver's side of the engine compartment. Must have been a common problem back then because when I called Edelbrock about it they offered to sell me a special $35 gasket to fix the problem. I went back to the Carter street/strip pump like I had ran previously.
