I recently replaced all the PS components on my 72. Control valve, power cylinder, hoses, and pump. Now for some reason my steering wheel isn’t centered. I didn’t drop the center link or any of the other rods, only dropped the control valve from the pitman arm obviously. Now my steering wheel isn’t centered. After thinking about it, that could be because not the same number of threads are showing on the center link where the control valve attaches. I did it to where 4 are showing per the manual. Now that it’s on, what’s the best way to adjust the wheel? Down at the tie rods or just taking the wheel off and re-centering it?

I think moving tie rods might make it necessary to do an alignment; I would try re-centering first.

The steering wheel has one large notch for center on shaft. Unless it's already skewed, don't move it.

Apparently the valve was installed incorrectly and center is off as you now have it approx correct. Choices are adj valve in/out, or proper way is adj tie rods to center, BUT that will effect toe in. If wheel is at 11 0'clock, lengthen driver tie rod and shorten passenger same amount. If at 1 o'clock do opposite.

Do you put your old parts on after a rebuild? Or did you get replacements from somewhere?

Old parts. I sent them off to be rebuilt. The steering pump, control valve, and power cylinder. He did a great job!

Something is out of adjustment (obviously).

First...make sure you steering gear box is actually "centered". Make sure you have the exact same amount of turns of the steering wheel to the left as you do to the right....starting with the car going straight.
