Got the metal “ control box “ soaking in a bucket of 50/50 water and 5 % picking vinegar. Stripped off the old seals. Here is a shot of the old heater core beside the new one. The new one has been pressure tested.

Soaking the vent " control box" in vinegar and water. Checked it and the rust is coming off nicely. An added bonus is the old glue for the foam seals is soughing off. I added a few more cups of 3% vinegar and I'll give it another 24 hours.

I picked up my heater core from the radiator shop today. He had the old style brass core to swap out for mine as a preventative measure and pressure tested.
Has anyone that has used the foam kit had to squeeze the box together to put the clips in? I had to use a grease in order to slide the metal door part back in since the foam is on the outside of it. I just want to make sure it's good before I install the u clips.

Installed the throttle cable from the '92 Cougar donor to my 5.0l EFI engine. Only modification to make it work was squaring up the hole in the firewall. Works great as an option for anyone on a retrofit like this. The one pic shows the two cables side by side. Firewall hole went from round to square with a dremel tool. Cable snapped right in first try and works perfectly with the pedal. I'll probably put the bolts back in to help secure it in place and fill the holes.

Started the job of replacing the upper control arms and strut bushings. Did inventory of replacement parts and bolted the new spring perches to the control arms. Then grease gun self destructed. Tomorrow it goes up on jacks
You probably just saved some people a lot of frustration. Nice, clean solution.

Here is a before and after of the metal control box from inside the plenum soaking for 48 hours in a solution of 50% water and 50 % of 5% pickling vinegar. Also picked up 10 ft of 5/8 inch Gates heater hose.

I had sanded mine down with sand paper, the old foam came off pretty easily in my case. I them painted it with a rustoleum. Still havent put my box back together.

The control box for the plenum is cleaned up. Primed it and sprayed it with some high temp caliper paint I had leftover from another project. Did a test fit without the seals. The camera angle made it look crooked. It fits

Checked the Mustang seal kit from Melvin’s. By the way Melvin's ships to Canada without hassles. The kit is a good fit and should do the job. For the first piece I had to make a hole In the foam for the crank using a leather belt hole-maker. You could just make a hole with anything. I’m using Gorilla Glue White. Ordinary Gorilla Glue is good with foam as well. Did a test fit. Put glue on the painted metal, spread it with a small paint brush and glued the black foam piece on. I’ll check it tomorrow and if good proceed with the rest of the foam. By the way, the lower photo is how it sits in the front cover. Imagine rotating the cover up off the floor and pushing it against the back of the box.

Installed a set of Alston subframe connectors from Jegs, the fit is pretty good for a bolt on set, fit snug against the floor. Ran out of daylight after finishing so only have a pic of one installed
