i see that hooker makes another header for the maverick besides the 6901's. they look the same but description says 75-77 maverick with 302. Anyone tried theses yet? And does anyone know why they would be specific to theses 3 years only?
I have just contacted Holley/Hooker to ask the same question! Other members, including myself have used their 6901 series, originally said was for our 70-77 Mav, then just recently they changed their description to 70-74 models and their 7405 series for 75-77 models. I will post their reply as soon as I hear back from them......also the 7405 is slightly cheaper in price. Also says the 7405 is specific to 75-77 Mavericks, no mention of any other Ford models, unlike the 6901 which covers other models like Mustangs, Cougars, Fairlaines etc..........so maybe they "tweaked" the 7405 to fit our cars better to clear the pitman arm and shock towers with the added reinforcement? David
Looking at the instructions for their instillation it shows moving the mounting location of the emergency brake cable to clear the collector.
Yeah, the instructions are both the same for 6901/7405! They must have recently updated the 6901 instructions, since it specifically mentions raising the engine on our Mav/Comets! Was never mentioned before! Hopefully I will hear back from them next week! David
Here is the reply I just got from Holley/Hooker........... David, The 6901 is the old part number for 7405 they are the same header. There is a break point at 1975 and it can be confusing. Thanks for choosing Holley Performance Products, THIS EMAIL MAY NOT BE MONITORED Matt Tinnin Your Question Was: Hello: What is the difference between your 6901 series and 7405 series Hooker Headers? I currently have 1973 Ford Maverick with 302 and would like to know the differences between the 2 series. Site mentions that the 6901 are for 70-74 and 7405 for 75-77 years. Any information would be much appreciated, thanks! David I wonder if enough members where to contact them, maybe they could "tweak" the one tube to clear the pitman arm a little better on our Mav/Comets.......
The 6901's contacted the shock towers on my '74 (1 tube per side) when using AFR heads. The engine would not even sit flat on the mounts! They also barely cleared the steering knuckle on my unisteer rack. Instead of beating up the ceramic coated 6901's and chipping the ceramic, I marked the areas of contact on the tubes and purchased a set of stainless steel 7405's, modifying the offending tubes with my arbor press (vs. a hammer).
