    My car has been in the garage for the last 20 years and spent most of the previous 28 years in the garage so my gaskets were still in one piece.

    Started taking apart the front grill, headlight area, and bumper. Going to paint the stuff black to finish the black out look. Any one know how to get chipping paint off if plastic? Once everything is cleaned up and painted, I am installing 8730's led headlights from JW Speaker. Here is a preview of what they look like.

    I test fitted my new LED’s in the instrument cluster. After removing a bulb holder, I measured the hole for the bulb as 0.5 inches. The largest OD on the LED is 0.45 inches, so it just fit. The length of the LED bulb starting at the bulb holder is 0.91 inch compared to a 194 bulb which is .71 inch long, but there was still enough space to fit. By the way, the hole at the bottom of the speedo is for an additional 194 bulb with a larger bulb holder for with a hole size of 0.6 inches. This is a cluster from a 1973 LDO. Now to reattach the power and install the bulbs with the correct polarity.

    Found a pack of 1893 bulbs for the radio light. If I can’t find a fresh 1445 bulb for the heat control panel I might just use a 1893.

    Yesterday I trial fit the A/C unit I pulled from a 95 Cougar. Thought it might be a doable swap and could keep all Ford parts in the car. I also liked the idea of being able to pull outside air through the unit like the OEM system did rather than the full time recirc like the universal kits.

    With some work it would fit, it would take some surgery on the lower dash tray and the heater hoses come out in a goofy spot. I think the hoses would be fine, they would be lower than the blower motor hole and more towards the center of the firewall but they angle out and should clear the engine easily. That's one thing I do like better about the Vintage Air setup is the hoses can be run through the firewall anywhere you want which did sway me a little.

    I end up abandoning the project for a couple reasons, the main reason being I don't want to hack the tray up since it would really render it useless. The others are the system is complicated with a combination of vacuum and electric actuators and the climate control system, plus it flat stunk. The car I killed for parts smelled like someone died in it. Not sure if it was the drugs that were smoked in it (found a bag of weed), dead rodents or if it was once a cat litter box. When I brought it home and had the doors open you could smell it in the street, around the back of the house and no doubt my neighbors could smell it too.

    In the end I successfully installed that unit in the bin for Tuesday's trash pickup. My non existent budget will take a hit when I buy the aftermarket stuff but it will be better in the end.

    Edit: Just dawned on me, if I had used it there was no way on this earth to service the heater core or blower motor without removing the entire dash. Glad I kicked it to the curb.

    Found a deal I couldn't pass up. Two brand new power window regulators for $40 from an 80's F series. They are similar in design to our cars but different enough to need "adjustment". If this works as planned I will write up the process I used. 20200606_133804.jpg

    I just drove around a bit. I have put about 100 miles on my "junkyard" motor, and I really like it. I put a transgo kit in my c4 before the motor got put in, so it shifts nice too. I have to write down the mileage at next fill to know what kind of MPG it gets....it is easily better than 15. This is the 5th summer I have had this car, and all the mechanical work done to it is starting to pay me back in fun!

    I have modified the Fseries regulator, disassembled a Maverick regulator for the arm and mated the two. It is in and does what it should do!

    Next up is to trim the Maverick arm, it is laying over the pin holding the gear to the mount which causes it to catch the arm the rides in the glass track. I'll do that and then weld the two together and install the glass.

    This is where my one concern comes into play, the Maverick glass is probably twice the size and weight of the truck. It will probably be fine but we'll know soon enough.

    If all goes as planned I will outline exactly what I did to make it work. I know New Relics has a kit now but I'll be in at less than 10% of the cost and had a little fun doing it.

    Today I built another regulator but I did it different than yesterday. My one concern with the truck stuff is motor life. There is a lot less leverage for the motor to lift the glass and it doesn't have the spring to help lift. It's also lifting more glass than was intended with that regulator and add to that you are extending the lever the load is on by adding the Maverick arm. Seeing how slow it went up I was curious how it would work with the Maverick regulator modified to accept a motor so I took the pieces from a 95 Cougar I parted and modified a regulator. Here is how it functions. The motor doesn't struggle like the F series does. Then again, that regulator has a smaller will fit motor on it....:scratchchin: Maybe I need to put a Cougar motor on it and see how that works. Some days i'm like a dog chasing farts, no wonder my car still isn't done!:bouncy:



    I'll get to it soon. I got side tracked again, seems to happen a lot with me!
