Okay, so I'm back again with another problem in the wonderful life of the Comet. Aside from the slow overheating problem it has developed another peculiar problem that I am so far relating to the power steering ram or control valve.. Well while out on a drive one day I stopped at a stop light in the left turn lane. (because thats what we do when its red right? ) So upon turning the steering wheel left all of a sudden it takes the wheel out of my hand and rotates all the way to lock the wheel left. As if ALL the power produced in the little pump suddenly went to turning left only. It took quite a bit of might to get the car straight again, but once I got it to the center of the steering wheels travel it drove okay but was very touchy. If I even so much as breathed on the steering wheel the car was going left, but I had absolutely no power steering trying to turn right. I finally pulled over and shut the car off and waited for a little while. When i started it up again, the power steering worked as it should. But then the next day it did it again. I pulled over to the side of the road and parked it right next to a curb with it idling. I locked the wheels to the curb and turn the steering wheel both ways as hard as i could and suddenly it worked fine again. Not sure if this it a common problem when a certain component is going out but it's sort of sketchy driving it around like this not knowing when it will happen again. It hasn't happened since but seems to me maybe a seal is out in the power steering ram cylinder or something. Anybody else have any suggestions?
I have that exact problem, the difference with mine is that i haven been able to drive it because when ever i start the car it will automatically turn the wheel left (only left) and trying to turn it right is hard but when i do and let it loose it goes back to the left. My hooses are connected correctly so i dont know what the problem could be. did you ever got to figure out what was doing the issue? or did it solve by it self??
