Hotrock, I think you may have hit on it. I went out yesterday, and the thing started up just fine. I'm going to let it ride, and maybe take a look at the carb, see if there is a leak internally, or if it is what you said....fuel evaporation.
Thanks for the help, and have a great day.

Been playing swap-a-roo with carbs over past month. 2100 to 700dp. back and forth.

    Concluded I needed a 600!
Low and behold i spotted a 600 on craiglist for $75.

Figured i,d have to rebuild at least. I went for it and drove 60 miles. Chatted with guy a min before he showed me a clean 1850-11 carb in box.
We continued chatting and he found out i was in military and said thank for your service and to give him 50.00 instead of 75.00.
I insisted on 75 but he pushed back and we laughed and settled on 60.
Found out he just took off his corvette because he wanted a numbers matching carb. (I got shipping box he got his matching carb in).
Said if it don,t run on my car he will buy it back.

I installed a week ago. Runs flawless. Solved problems i had with 2100 and 700dp.

A vette guy helping a comet guy out!
    Awesome!!

I was going through my parts boxes and trying to organize them better. When I was boxing up all the lights I only had one set of taillights. Knowing I had two the hunt was on. Looked in the shed, in the Malibu, even on the side of the garage that is for house stuff hefore my brain unscrambled enough to see the light. :slap:

Stuck them on the car so I didn't have to pull the box back down when I pulled them out last fall.:biglaugh:

Went to a car show today found a medallion grill and some manuals for a good price. Then went back and put a new pertronix in my car along with a coil. Also redid all of the plug wires as the old ones were from my other engine which was an early firing order.

Finally dug out far enough to get the Mav uncovered. I had moved up to my shop in July (remote work is wonderful) and had packed in all my household stuff around and under it until I could get settled. Had to roll it out of the shop, couldn't get it fired. It was running when I backed it on the lift. For some reason the fuel pump isn't going. Could be an issue with the cheap pump I used, or will have to chase wiring.

The fuel system is basically all new this last spring, including the pickup tube and filter in the tank. Jumped the fuel pump from the junction block in the trunk and its a no go. Looking for a replacement now. May rap it a couple times with a hammer if I get a chance to see if I can get it to run long enough to at least back it back into the shop.

I recently put a $450 fuel pump in that pumped gas but had no pressure. doesn't seem to be your case but just throwing it out there.
what turns your pump on at startup?
I and others are running the...Holley 12-305. it's a direct bolt in into the stock tank mounting location, has a built in return.
