black is nice when clean...one summer shower on the road and it's the worst looking car out there...:yup:
you hear people say..."bet that car looks great when it's clean"..."yep, hard to keep them clean if you drive them" and "they're hot as blazes in the summer"...:yup: you already heard that one...:D

You need to be twice the detailer when working on a black car than on a lighter color. It will really challenge your detailing skills. We have a black Mustang and I like it, but probably wouldn't do it again.

Heat ... this is a neat scientific fact .... Black gains heat the quickest, but it also sheds heat quicker than other colors when you subject it to wind, etc. It is one reason why many radiators tend to be painted black.

Grey .... done far too often lately in my opinion. These are a smaller car, and that makes it easier to get away with a brighter color. These cars came Grabber Blue and other really visual colors. Take the same bright color and paint a large car and it is awful, but a smaller car can make it look fine.

I drive black trucks everyday for work, it's no big deal to me, since I'm a car guy, I like to keep my cars, and trucks clean.

As stated, black makes a beautiful car...if it's done right...if it's kept clean. I personally don't want to spend more time polishing and cleaning my car than I do driving it.
It takes a lot of time (or money) to get a car slick enough to do a first class black paint job. Black will magnify every little ding or ripple in your paint job. Not to mention the heat. Nope...no black ones for me.

Been there .. done that .. had a 71 Grabber and it was BLACK .. No big deal !!
Sure it gets hot .. ALL cars do.. I took my Black Grabber on FIVE Hot Rod POWER TOURS with hi-back buckets and it was great. The average mileage for a tour is 2500 to 3500 miles ..I did have a Vintage AC installed that helped a lot. Hey its YOUR car .. paint that sucker any color you want it to be.. what color "socks" do you wear ?? HA ..Does it really matter ??

Hmm, ankle socks or calf high. Maybe buy some running socks, they keep you cool as can be. Black cars are sweet, BUT..... It better be straight, lighter colors are more forgiving when doing body work.

I own a black 2012 International Prostar. When clean she is beautiful, but the first rain, and road grime, she get nasty real quick. Spend a lot of money ($55.00) a pop trying to keep it clean. The seats you need, speaking from a truck driver point of view, a set of premium back cycling, thigh and hip supporting seats like the ones in my truck. 650 miles a day, but I don't feel it. But always remember, it's your car, build what you like and want!

Soo its been awhile since I last posted in the forums with an update on the car, since my last post I have gradually acquired many new parts for the car as well as graduated with my Associate Degree in Automotive Service Tech, its been a long slow road and I am finally getting an opportunity to work on the car and possibly move it down to where I am living at. Since the my last post here I have completely gut the car, and got the floor pans welded in, I was able to get my hands on a t-5 transmission as well as a 289. I havent been able to do much actual work to the car except here and there, when I get to go home as the car is 60 miles from where I am living, so its been mainly gathering parts apart from the 289 and t-5 I have also begun the early stages of installing an AJE k-member and suspension. OH YEAH! did I forget to mention I was also able to find a turbo charger to put on the car? lol, thanks for all the positive and critical feedback on the car, I love to hear what other Maverick owners have to say, if you have any questions let me know I will answer them to the best of my ability.

Blazzinwarthogg welcome back to the site after the two year hiatus!!! :tiphat: Congratulations on getting your degree. It is always good to read about a young person with a passion for our cars.

Don't forget to put your car in the Garage with a detailed write-up and pictures. It will always be visible long after this thread has moved to the archives.

I just added my way too long of a project to the garage. I have another WAYYYYY over dur update on the car. As one might expect of somebody in their mid 20's with extreme aspirations, life tends to get in the way and not a whole lot has been done to the car. With that being said I do have some exciting things to share to the group. I decided to stay in college and get my Bachelor in Automotive Shop Management, this allowed me to get some experience with a paint gun and I was able to get the front clip of my car painted in class, thank god for auto tech classes. But I then graduated and moved to Kansas City where the car sat for a year and a half before moving back to South East Kansas. Fast forward to two weeks ago, I tested positive for the rona and have been quarantined since, thus giving me an opportunity to work on my dilapidated poor car. I cut the inner fenders out and began install of the aje k-member. I am cutting the inner fenders out because I now am going to squeeze a BBF429 that I was able to pick up from a friend of mine extremely cheap. I got the engine tore down and repainted and began rebuilding the inner fender wells as well as mocking up the rest of the front suspension. So I now have the AJE k-member installed with aje control arms, salvage yard sn95 spindles and ebay special sn95 coilovers. the strut mount up top is hand made, and looks like crap. Enjoy the shit show because I obviously have no idea what I am doing.:bigsmile::bigsmile::bigsmile::bigsmile::bigsmile:

Thats some good progress. Heck, I've been working on Comet on and off since 2007. I'm sure I'm still a few years away from being done.

You’re looking for comfort on the long trip. The exhaust......IMO loud is just fine. It just never gets old for me.;)
