You need the VIN number to tell if it is a real grabber. Could be a great find!

If the serial number of the car says 62D, then it is a Grabber. Take a look at the bottom of the rocker panel. Provided the rocker has not been replaced at some time, the number will be stamped there. The number will also appear in the VIN numbers in the door jamb.

Sounds like it may be a Grabber. The only problem is for the 1970 Grabbers did not have a different VIN vs. regular Mavericks. That did not happen until the 1971 models. IMO, the only way to be sure is have a report ran by Marti and see if the car was originally sold with the trim package or not. It would be worth spending the money to get the history of how the car was ordered from the factory. :2cents:

the only thing stamped on the bottom of the rocker is 62 not 62d and the door tag was unreadable. i did research the vin and it says it was built in kansas city

Does it have sport mirrors and a spoiler? If so then its a real possibility. But as Maverick Guy pointed out, the only sure way to tell is that report.

I believe the 62 means it was not a grabber. The 62D body was the grabber. To my knowledge the grabber stripes ended with the hood and did not reach into the cowl and windshield area.

    Actually ... 74MAV is incorrect.

The 1970 Grabber had absolutely no special VIN or Body Codes.

The stripes extended up the hood and onto the Cowl ...

I would say if you found black paint underneath the windshield chrome and the windshield itself ... it was blacked out at the factory.

Somebody swiped the factory rear spoiler that is why the deck lid and 1/4 extensions are gone.

The sport mirrors and painted over side decal is another good indication it was originally a Grabber.

More proof would be a black grill. Not a standard grill painted black but a grill molded from black plastic.

Well I Just Looked Up The Rocker Panel In The Old Ford Catalog And It Doesn't List A Different Rocker For A Maverick Vs A Grabber. 62 Is Just A Body Code. It Is Possible That The Replacement Rocker Fits Both.

You mean split bench with a fold down armrest? I don't think that was an original 1970 option ...
