Hi guys, I don't know if this is the right place to post this question, but here goes... I recently ordered a Marti report and owner's card for my '72 Comet. The card is beautiful! This got me to thinking that it would be really cool to assemble everything that a new car owner would have received upon delivery of his/her new car. By perusing eBay, I found different models of Ford and Lincoln-Mercury cars from that same year have listings for some of these items. Surprisingly, they are very inexpensive, although I may have to buy several listings to get all of the needed items, since every listing I see seems to be incomplete. So far, I have: Owner's manual Owner's card Consumer Information brochure Warranty Facts - 4-page folded brochure (actually one sheet printed both sides and folded) Emissions Systems Warranty brochure 6000 mile Super Premium motor oil brochure Plastic litter bag that everything was contained in (clear plastic with blue ink and a round hole at the top) Other Ford cars I've had (none were 1972 models) also had warranty tire information and consumer information test conditions with the car's VIN imprinted on it. Does anyone have, or can accurately remember, what other items may have come in my Comet when new that I currently don't have? I'm sure that Mavericks would have had all of the same items, except they would be identified as "Maverick" instead of "Comet". Are any of these brochures dated or if, let's say, I need tire warranty information, can I find one on eBay, and for which manufacturer were these printed for? I appreciate any help you guys can give me. I just think it would be really cool to have all of the year-correct items that my car was delivered with. Thanks! Fordially, tomthemercman
When I read your list the only thing that popped into my head was the tire information - which you mentioned later in the post. I am not familiar with the test information.
Don’t forget the safe ride pamphlet and the tire earnest sheet that I have is from Firestone. It is a generic one and doesn’t specially have maverick/comet on it.
Hey Tom, Yes, that is the Consumer Information paperwork I was talking about. I've seen them on eBay when someone is selling an owner's manual packet for a Ford product of the same era. Thanks for the reply. Fordially, tomthemercman
Hi William623, Thanks for the photo. I guess I'm missing the tire warranty info and the Safe Driving booklet. Is your set for sale? The plastic bag you have looks absolutely mint. Mine is there but its condition is way less than that. it's useable for now, but I'd like to have a really nice set when I'm done. The Consumer Information has the car's VIN on it. I've never seen a blank one and I see that Marti Auto is not reproducing these. I have also collected every sales brochure and other showroom literature like mailers and post cards along with paint chip charts and a dealer Data Book, Sales and Product Book, and also Color and Upholstery. Would you guys be interested in seeing these? I can post some pictures of everything in the next few days. I've always enjoyed literature and have always had a collection for every car I've owned. Prospective buyers always seemed happy that these items were included in a sale. I find it fascinating how Ford advertised their cars to the public and what internal publications they had for dealer use only. Now, everything is done electronically, so these cool books and catalogs are a thing of the past. Literature is also fairly inexpensive unless you want an item mentioning a '57Thunderbird or a '69 Mustang Mach I or Boss. It also looks awesome when displaying it with a car. Thanks to everyone who has commented thus far. Fordially, tomthemercman
I am going to hold onto them for now, I recently just got them from an older collector along with 2 or 3 more 70s owners manuals. I am saving it for my 70grabber that I will be doing. All the pieces are in fantastic condition. I will reach out to the gentleman i got my stuff from and see if he has any more bags. His dad ran a dealership and has a decent hoard of ford parts. I’ll call him tomorrow. I love seeing literature, I enjoy collecting it my self and always snag the unique and rare pieces at the shows.
