Would anyone know if the Duraspark distributor has an iron or steel gear. I am looking to replace and that issue keeps coming up on my choices.

    Thanks!

Only steel gear versions were used on 1985, 5.0, 5-speed Mustangs(& Capri). Automatics used EEC-IV.

All roller cammed engines have steel gears, but '85 was only year for Duraspark.

Looking at them is the best way to tell.
Steel gear on right cast iron on left.

Will there be a code on the dizzy label that would tell me?

No. What engine is this for and what year is it? As Tom stated steel gears were used on 5.0 with factory roller cams, so if this is not a 302 it will not be a steel gear. If it is a 302 it would have to be an unoriginal mid/late 80-ish 302 with a roller cam.

To the best of my knowledge it is an un original 302 HO block. I remember the seller saying the block was from Summit. The heads are Ford GT-40X.

It may be an H.O. engine. Just pull the distributor and compare the gear with the above photo, cast is rough, steel is smooth.
