That's pretty much what I did ol' buddy. Corrected ride height....

The front got some re-positioning of the front spindles, a little sanding here and a little drilling there. All the rear springs needed was a slight re-arching. Now it's starting to look more like I want it to with a slight forward rake.

The chassis and proper stance has been the topic of building over the course of the last couple of months. One of the things that surprised me was the Fords use of red oxide primer on the bottom side of these cars. Never saw any of that on any of mine but hey…by the time I got those cars it was a good 25 years on down the line. lol

Just an FYI. I did end up getting ahold of Round 2 and asking for the proper Wide Oval white lettered tires. I talked to what sounded like a kid on the phone and it didn’t appear that he knew too awful much about the product but was willing to help out. We’ll see what I get in the mail.

Chassis in progress without the exhaust on just yet:

Speaking of exhaust systems, I’ll be starting on that next so I can get the chassis part of this build behind me. One thing I notice alot of times on the bottom side of completed auto builds is the presence of seams on the exhaust pipes. These tend to be overlooked by some modelers so I thought I’d point these seams out on the exhaust pipes in this kit.

This is freshly cut from the sprue so you can still see the sprue attachment point but check out those nasty seams on the exhaust pipes. Those…will be disappearing soon. More updates coming over the next few days on this subject…

    Thanks for the "likes" fellas!

Today saw the completion of the chassis. I recreated the body color overspray on the bottom as well. I should be able to start on the engine now.

Got some work on the engine done. Still need to come back over the engine with a semi gloss coat though. Here's a quick mock up of where I'm at right now.....

Managed to get the engine all put together. I used the base engine and replaced the OOB carburetor with a 1/25 scale Holley Double Pumper from Shapeways 3D Printing services, the cooling fan& throttle & pivot levers are from Detail Master, Photoetch & Resin Air cleaner is from IceMan Collections on Ebay and spark plug wires are from Lex's Scale Modeling. Fuel lines are scratch built as are the wiring harness. Fuel fitting is from RB Motion and the retaining nuts for the alternator and coil wiring are from Detail Master.

Glamour shots before she gets tucked away till a later part of the build.

It's pretty close to my original 351W that I had waaay back when:

    Thanks Hotrock!!

Engines and interiors are my favorite parts of car building however I'm not liking the interior of this one as much as others. This one has some rather difficult spots particularly when it comes to the replication of some of the chrome/ aluminum plating trim.

The door panel for these cars with the deluxe interior package looks like this:

Started with the OOB door panel. Here it is mocked up in my GT-350 spare kit just to show what we're working with here.

That door handle presents a nasty obstacle when trying to apply BMF to the brushed aluminum insert. After two failed attempts botching it up I just decided to remove the dang door handles and re-create the pockets that they go in so I could insert the metal ones that I ordered from Teds Modeling Marketplace later.

As you can see...the efforts paid off.

Then came the addition of the chrome strip around the perimeter of the door panel insert as well as the addition of the mirror control lever and bezel/ retainer. Now we're just waiting on those door handles.

Got my goodies in that I was waiting on. Outside door handles from Fireball Models (They're GM handles but they are going to work out great in place of those solid/molded in door handles) and then the inside door handles that I was waiting on to finish the door panels up with from Pro Tech.

and then after installing the handles just this morning. I polished them up, since they're metal and installed them. Gives the panels a great 3D look and you can see the reflection of the handles in the door trim which I thought was a good touch.

Thanks alot for the comments Russ!! I haven't posted on here in almost two months. I need to get my a$$ in gear on updates here.

Bench time has NOT been at a premium these days but I'm making my way through this one.

Ok guys. I've had the dash built for a while now and had the steering wheel and column installed but wasn't happy with the steering wheel so......It's "Take II" time on the steering wheel. I had a cheater template for marking the rivet holes from a dollhouse clock. After I cut it to fit inside the steering wheel ring I was able to mark the rivet hole position holes really easy. FYI...if anybody wants free (and cool) print off stuff for 1/25 scale builds....here ya go: www.printmini.com/printables/ph.html

and then with the holes drilled for the rivets later on...

I wasn't going to go this far but ......Ya know....if I've tried my best on something then I can sit back and be content with it but when I look at something I've done and see what I view as substandard and I know I can do better then I'll usually figure a method out on how to acheive the results I want. I've let stuff go in the past and always end up regretting it so I try to handle it when I see it now.

Any how..... I knew this was going to be alot of work so I worked really hard laying the groundwork for the steering column and wheel completion just to get it out of the way. I managed to get this to a point to where I'm going to be okay with it.

I used some scale PE rivets that I have from the Model Car Garage that I inserted into each one of the cavities once I had everything painted up.

    To compare. My first attempt:

.............and Take II. I am MUCH happier with this.

Man......what a lasts part of the year. Totally crazy!! Sons truck got trashed right in front of our house a couple of months ago, hit and run btw....but found the car, submitted a claim and after talking with the insurance adjuster, got ALOT more for the truck than I thought I would. Spent all of November trying to find him a truck and finally got a good truck for the money but had to drive 500 miles to get it.
Storm shutter electric door screwed up on us and had to fix that!!! I mean....somebody throw me a bone here!! lol

Alright gang....back to the build at hand. For those of you just tuning in I realize this is a Mustang and this is in fact, a Maverick/Comet forum BUT.....I should be starting on my next Maverick pretty quick after this one.

    Finished interior:

Thanks for the great comments fellas. Being a seeming oddball on this forum I don't own a Maverick or even a Ford product any more but I really like this site. The last Mustang I had I let go of 11 years ago but I do have a STRONG interests in the Mav/ Comet lineup and may one day obtain one of these great cars. Until then I'll continue building scale versions of these awesome cars and posting here along with any technical/ automotive help that I can be to folks that are here.

    Moving on to the wheels.....
Every now and then people in business will take the time to listen to a consumer and make necessary changes. I spoke with Eric Oberhofer at Round 2 at the beginning of September in regards to the AMT 67 Mustang Fastback issues. One of the issues involved the tires that came in the kit which were Firestone Super Sports tires instead of the Firestone Wide O Oval tires that were on the box top. He had mentioned that he was going to bring this issue up in the next board meeting. Meanwhile I had received a set of Wide O Oval decals from a friend of mine on the forums. After removing the Super Sports logos from the sides of the tires and had applied those, however, they looked too big and I was left scratching my head at what I was going to do next. I decided to go down to Hobby Lobby and purchase another kit and use the Super Sports tires...........BUT............when I opened the box of the newly purchased kit I found..........a set of Wide O Oval tires now in the box!!!!!! A BIG shout out goes to Eric and the Round 2 team involved in making this change.

Before the change this is what came in the box....

and this is now what comes in the box. Here mounted on my newly painted & detailed wheels. This may not seem like a big deal to some but these tires look so much better than the others with just a lettering font size and different name on the tires to me.

I have to admit that when I was a kid, I thought 67 & 68 mustangs were not the pretty ones. It is interesting to me that they have grown on me to the point that I may even like them more than a 66 at this point. Looking at your model interior just makes me wonder how silly of me to ever not like them.....funny what time does.

I hear you Stu. I went through that with the late 80’s/ early 90’s Fox Body Mustangs. When I got older they grew on me to the point that I bought an 89 LX 5.0 coupe and owned it for 10 years. Lol
