I think the new Ford Maverick truck is a big disappointment. I was hoping for a true compact size pickup, standard cab and short bed, like the old ranger pickups. If I wanted to haul four passengers I would get an SUV or a full size truck. Also it would have been neat to carry over something from the Maverick car look.
I agree it makes things difficult for us now, and odd they brought back the ranger, only to introduce this truck, making the ranger this weird middle child. The ranger originally being Ford's small pickup. (My mother owned an 88 and my dad ran a 99 well into the ground so I'm a bit biased) That being said, I don't understand all the hate on the truck itself. At it's base it's essentially a no-frills, small, (ish) more affordable pickup for someone who doesn't need a whole lot of truck, which is exactly what they've explained their market is. Kind of like, the original Maverick. Ford's got plenty of options for anyone wanting more. That being said, I think the new "Area 51" color it comes in is badass.
They seem to be popular with the younger crowd. This old guy just wants a small pickup to go to the home and garden centers. I've been looking for a 2wd Jeep Comanche but they are hard to find.
I just wish they would offer a standard cab option, for what I would use it for I would usually be the only passenger, maybe one other person at the most.
