A warm 80 here in the California Bay Area and yet still too lazy to get out and work on the car

Lazy is such a harsh word, I prefer selectively ambitious!

Flushed oil I bought it with. Removed filter with a handy straight pick through the stupid thing. The filter wrench I bought has worked on precisely 0/3 different cars. Water pump comes today. Spent what must be hours cleaning 20+ years of gunk off the block while I waited.

I set my timing and idle today on my 74 and started looking at changing the heater core. I also was trying to make sense of what’s left of the a/c system that was removed.

Spent most of this afternoon upside down stuffing wiring and heater controls up into place. Pay no mind to the steering wheel, it's soon to be redone.

Ordered some parts and plan to go hang the front suspension on it so I can bring it home.

Went and picked up a pretty nice original grabber hood. Only will need a minor repair. 69565E78-6AE1-4F80-A83E-A84FDE09A323.png DF32D133-9449-4B67-94EF-9F2E5EC7AE9B.png 321C738E-C793-42F8-B710-AF8578C5ABCA.png

Picked up a 71 grabber 1 owner barn find today to go with the other 3. I have a 77 complete car and 70 and 72 parts cars. Now to get to work on the new car and see what it needs. It seems complete but hasn’t run in a while.

Wallowed an impressive hole in the yard today while battling the most obstinate : STRUT RODS AND THIER NUTS!!!...Earlier, while gleaning parts from my donor car, (28 Buick Cyst), I somehow superglued a hornets' nest to my head !!! That woke the remaining neighbors for sure..Things have a way of working out I was thinking as my wife pushed me out of her truck on the way to O'riellys....some cop saw me bouncing around, and gave her a ticket for littering........

Well yesterday I replaced the front float valve or aka needle and seat in the front bowl. Went to 4 part stores and only could find one but needed 2, all the ones I had in my stash were detireated. Instead of waiting til Monday to get one I rebuilt the back one. Replaced the needle in the rear float valve, pried open the bottom so I could it out, found a new one long enough to clear the end of the housing so the float would close off the fuel. Ground down the bottom of the needle so I could recrimp the bottom and have enough to protude out for the float to operate it before hitting the housing on the float valve. Used a small socket and hammer to recrimp it so the needle wouldn't fall out, screwed the lock screw all the way in and used it to tap on. Worked like champ and didn't cost me a dime. I can't believe those things are 20 bucks before taxes! Oh and hooked up a vacuum gauge with a long enough hose to prop it up on the dash to monitor on the way to my ex's last night. Idles at just under 17 inches of vacuum at idle. Sounds has if it may have had the cam replaced at sometime, or got some leaky valves but it runs too good for that.
