I am installing a '75 Maverick rear end in a '75 Mustang II, and the one drum is worn too much to use.....it is 10" wide and for 2" wide linings, and is finned.....does anyone have or know of a source for this? I can't find any new ones that are finned, and even if I'm willing to go with non-finned, the inside axle pilot hole is too small (they went to a larger pilot in '74 Mavericks, and I can't find any drums with that size pilot where the other dimensions are right). I ordered a (non-finned) pair from Carid and they were obviously for 1 3/4" linings, and I had to return them. I know of sources for non-finned ones that would fit except for the pilot hole (for '67 to '73 Mustang etc.), and am I going to have to resort to getting these and having a local machine ship enlarge the pilot holes? Below are photos of one of my old drums:
Here is ebay listing, at least you can compare the spec's in the description to see if it matches with your rear drums. https://www.ebay.com/itm/133866729443?epid=1237961539&hash=item1f2b142fe3:g:krQAAOSwUbFhSX0X&vxp=mtr David
My old linings from the Maverick rear end are definitely 2.0" wide. And I requested new linings from the local auto parts store, specifying mid-1970s Maverick, and they were also 2.0" wide. My understanding is that Granada linings are 2.25" wide. And Centric brand brake drums are a fraudulent product.....they all use a generic picture of a finned brake drum, but what you get has no fins and has a totally different inner lip design.....I know the hard way, because I ordered them and had to send them back. The local auto parts store has drums in stock that WOULD work....if I had a machine shop cut the pilot hole larger (which I was hoping to avoid.....and I also would like finned brake drums, which the local ones are NOT).
The Ford part number on my old brake drums is D5DA-1126-A. And I just saw one source that says this is a late 1970s Granada drum. What I suspect is that V8 Mavericks of the '74 to '77 period (such as the car I got my rear end from) used the same drum as the Granada, whereas the more common 6-cylinder Mavericks used the more spindly 1 3/4" x 10" drum.
I found a pair drums with that part number on eBay and just bought them.....they were from a '75 Granada.....so yes, V8 Mavericks of the '74 to '77 period used the same drums as the Granada!
Common for Granada, pre '74 Mustang, 68-'71 Torino, '67-'70 Falcon and many other models to use same components. Maverick steering boxes(and much of the front suspension) were first used on '67 Fairlane.
