Comments says it's a `68 302 4bbl. That's sweet! High stall convertor, steep gears and big compression would be my guess.
It's a GT class car. Meaning the car doesn't have to meet the drive line. But, the drive line does have to meet the rules for a 68 302 for whatever it's claimed to come from. The numbers have to match and the rules are pretty heavy and they can be subject to tear down. Gearing and converter is unlimited as far as I know.
You are right greasemonkey; but it is interesting how much additional compression some of the competition engine builders with some creative machine work can get out of "stock" components. So how about I substitute RPM for compression? You may enjoy this old article and video about a field of 283 Chevys and 1 289 Mustang; the Fords with their small valve heads just weren't competitive. I read somewhere that Shelby got involved and convinced the NHRA to allow the Ford racers to use a set of his off-the-shelf large valve heads for the GT350 sbf much to the chagrin of the Chevy guys.
