After reinstalling my column and a short drive, neither of these gages are working. The light works for the dash. No blown fuses. My new turn signal switch works, but the directional lights on the dash do not luninate. I have a wiring diagram but I'm sill baffled. It shows the fuel tank wire merging, and then off to some block. Thats all I can see.
Two separate problems. Turn signals not flashing in dash and gas gauge not working can be dash connector or maybe ground. The gauge can be tested by grounding connector at tank for no more than 15-20 seconds at a time. should read past full. The speedo is purely mechanical, likely cable not plugged in completely.
Ok found out a couple things. Speedo cable did appear to be disconnected from the cluster somehow but not surprised. I'll reconnect and attempt a drive or jack it up and run it soon. I grounded the tank connector and gage is working so it must be that ground but that ground is near the latch and it's fine! In the meantime, what goes into this hole in the back of the cluster? There was an incorrect socket just shoved into it doing nothing.
Assuming tank is grounded, gas gauge reading when connection is grounded means one thing.... Problem is in the tank.... The wired socket is the ALT light. I guess Ford learned a lesson with the '68/'69 Fairlane/Torino. When light is nonfunctional, system doesn't charge. The unmarked one is reserved for future use.
checked the resistance tonight and there's nothing. :\ now I have to get another container and drain it and possibly buy another. damnit
