I need a new rear seat for my 4 2 door comet. I can't find a like for like replacement so I'm wondering if a Mustang seat could be made to fit? Or if anyone has another, more readily available, rear seat that will go in? Happy to do some custom work on brackets to mount it and not looking for a perfect fit, just something usable.
I have a rear seat that I believe came from a 74 Comet. It was with the extra parts that came with my rusty 71 Maverick and was accompanied by a dash with a 74 Comet VIN. Shipping would be a killer though, I'm in Richland, WA. Upholstery is good, just dirty from storage.
I redid the upholstery in my 72 Comet with 71 -73 Mustang COUPE upholstery skins (not Fastback ... folding rear seat). They are close in size for the rear seat upper, perhaps an inch wider. I used the skin on my original Comet frame and pulled it tighter. The rear seat bottom will be different though. Each seat area is scalloped out. I am not sure a Mustang lower seat frame would work. 72-77 Maverick and Comet rear seats share the same frame etc. Earlier ones are a different shape due to the different seat belts. I am thinking Granada/Monarch/Versailles rear seats may fit but not certain. The chassis platforms share a lot with Mavericks. Hope this helps.
