I need to replace the carb on my '73 Maverick 200 Six. Prefer a NOS or perhaps a new interchangeable carb. It does appear to be a Carter YF style unit. I see carbs on eBay that match mine in appearance (see pics) but the application charts and descriptions do not match. I also see a lot of cheap off-brand units on eBay and I would try one but not seeing a good match. I have not had good luck with remans in the past. Thanks in advance for any help from you pros on this site! You have helped me a lot before.
Pretty car, super nice car port! Why do you feel the need to replace the carburetor, is the engine not operating properly?
Thanks for your reply and compliments! The engine has a rough idle. Otherwise runs very well. The engine was recently rebuilt (to stock) at a professional building facility (Dynamic Machines in Waycross GA) and was tuned up. A kit was put in the carb but my techs advised me they are not carb experts. They suggested replacing the carb or find a carb specialty shop.
From my experience, the most important thing in a carb rebuild is getting the carb body passages clean. Your non carb expert engine shop may have not done a thorough cleaning. A simple fix may be to run a 16oz can of Sea Foam motor treatment through your fuel system. Sea Foam is the only brand I use. Just pour it in the tank and drive the car. I believe it would be worth a try. It would be a shame to not try and fix your OEM carb.
I got a replacement carb (1 bbl Carter YK) from UREMCO remanufactured carbs - this was through Summit. UREMCO touts itself as 'not just another carb rebuilder.' Plus, the fact that Summit carries them raised my expectations. A bit pricey at $304.99? Although that includes a $60 core charge. It seems to be doing fairly well, after my local shop adjusted it. I will follow up! (I also noticed with interest Holley Sniper Autolite 1100 EFI kits. But I don't believe that will retrofit my Carter YK. )
Summit sells same 2150 2bbl carbs for $200 that can be bought on Amazon for $60.00. At least that was price a few years ago.... Was one on my Fairlane, I threw in trash.
