If u are not going to paint the top later the same colour

this is what i am going to do. paint the top with a ROLL ON not brush or spray bed liner
it will give u the look of vinyl and u can paint it any colour u want and is tough as nails and will never rust

    Okay...
I have always called mine 3/4 because that is what Ford called it on a Mustang. I wasn't aware of 'halo' being the Maverick correct name.
The Mustang version was the same. All of the upward facing roof was vinyl, while posts and the side facing portion over the doors were paint. It was the 3/4 roof.
I think that a black 'halo' on a light colored car takes out some of the height and roundness of the roof, making for a sleeker look than a solid car.
I am sure it also raises interior temps too. Living in Florida, I probably won't do a halo or pseudo halo this time around for that fact alone.
    Dave

Edit: If you ask me, that other top looks more like a 'halo' effect to me. Now I have to dig out my Ford salesman guides from the early 70s to find the proper name, or it'll drive me up a wall.

    1973 Ford salesman guide:

    Roof, vinyl.... $74.65
*2 dr and Grabber models have halo design with bright trim
** Not available with Luxury Decor Option

    Mustang...
    Roof, 3/4 vinyl.... $52.35
    *Available only on SportsRoof models

I learn something new every day.
All of these years with the books on the shelf and the Mavericks coming and going from the garage, and I never knew it was called 'halo'.

Apparently the halo wasn't available on the Comet. At least not in the 73 guide I have open.
    Roof, vinyl.... $75.12

No notes or any other description on that one.

    Halo top/full top colors:
Black, white, green, avacado, orange (Grabber only)
    LDO vinyl top colors:
    Blue, green, copper, white, brown

My book shows a $27 option called '2 tone paint'.
There is no further description, pics, or restrictions on packages.
I wonder if this could be it?
I went back through the book and it notes 'halo' over and over for the Mav, but does no such thing for the Comet.
My guess would be that maybe the 2 tone paint got a halo, but that the halo vinyl was not an option. Just a wild guess.

    Thanks guys!

I thought about converting to a small bumper set up, but with this trim package it would look oddly out of place.

    Reverse Halo

Well, I have a reverse halo at the minute....hehehe...Yea, the vinyl top on my car is peeling exactly where a halo would be...Oh and while I am at it ...What is the best way to peel off that darn top?

Wow I posted on this thread over 12 years ago. My yellow 73 came with a painted white halo top. I'm leaving it on the car.
