I just recieved the radio I bought off of Ebay for my Comet today. It is one of the old style shaft models which fit without cutting the dash. It is a Panasonic AM/FM auto reverse cassette, brand new in the box! This guy oldtimesman33, apparently bought out a stereo store that went out of business and had a bunch of old stock like this. Most of his stuff is listed as fitting GM models, but a lot of them like the one I bought will fit any car that takes the old style shaft radios. I only paid $29.90 for mine, I was the only bidder. They are worth looking into if you want a cassette and don't want to cut the dash to fit the DIN style that is sold now. These are brand new with all hardware and paperwork! He also has 8 track players, for a totally 70's look. Check him out! I can't remember how I found his listings, I may have went through consumer electronics. If you want a new radio that fits without cutting, it'd be worth spending time to find his stuff, IMO.
Sounds like a great deal. For those that are interested though. This guy does a great job on converting our original radios into a modern digital,am/fm with jacks for a remote cd player. The nice thing is that they look completely stock when he is done. The price is a little on the high side, but new stuff is just as expensive and just doesn't fit the look,IMO. Check his site out. www.taymanelectrical.com
Thats cool. Either way, I'm like you, I like the old look better, just seems to fit the overall appearance of the car. Besides, I like a radio I can actually operate without having to take a computer class!
