I was wondering if the 72 302s in the Mavericks had dished pistons or flat tops. And what the compression is. I am asking because I have a set of ported 69 Windsor heads with 55cc chambers. I hope to have somewhere between 9.0 and 10.0 to one compression.
    Thanks.

My motor manual lists the 72 302 as having 8.5-1 compression. I do believe they were flat top pistons. My 71 was, anyway.

If the 72 is the same that will give me around 10:1 compression. I hope it's no more than that, due to the California "High octane" gas. (91 octane) It will probably detonate at even that level. I will buy some AFR 185s when I rebuild the motor. They have 61cc chambers and will give me 9.6:1 or so compression.
I thought the Mustang 302s had dished pistons those years to lower compression but I might have been thinking of the Cleveland.

Not sure about pistons, but compression for 71 302 is 9 to 1. For 72 it is 8.5 to 1. For 73 on, it is 8 to 1 in mavericks.

I hope that means they dished the pistons. What size chambers do they have. Do they change over the years 71-73?

If it helps any the chambers on the D1TZ-A or D2OE-BA heads were 58.2. Check this site out someone else referred me to it has alot of good, useful info for Fords. http://www.mustangii.net/tech.asp
just click on cylinder-head casting numbers.
