1972 Comet-six with a three speed on the floor
My name is Thomas Loehn. My oldest son and I just completed a 1974 Ford Bronco transformation which took about two years. It came out quite nice and we got to spend some good times together. Now my second son wants to do a project. We have acquired a 1972 Comet. The body is in pretty good shape. It has a straight six and a three speed. We want to transform this into a V8 with a C4, upgrade the suspension, add disc brakes, change out the rear end if necessary and then do the interior and exterior. Are there any books or publications on the vehicle that might help us get started with making the conversion simpler--suggestions re motors, motor mounts, transmissions, transmission mounts, driveshafts, rearends, suspensions and brakes? Thanks for the help. Tommy

:Welcome: Use the search feature on this forum and you will find all kinds of info on the disc brake swap, engine mounts and rearend upgrades etc. Whatever you don't find just post the question under the proper topic.

If you are looking for a how-to book, there is not one specifically for these
cars. However, I found a Mustang Restoration guide extremely helpful in my
resto as the cars are basically the same under the skin. Doors attach the
same, fenders, decklid etc. Wiring is very similar, drivetrain is identical.
I found it very helpful to have pics, techniques and processes detailed.

Welcome! Glad you picked the comet for the next project. Like stated before, not much published info on these cars. That is probably why all of us have become hooked on this message board. Tons of great people and with that tons of ideas, answers and just all around friendship.

Welcome Tommy! I also have a '72 Comet, so glad to see another one. I can't add much more than the other folks have said, but this is definitely the place for you. I'm sure you and your son will enjoy the project. Good luck!

    Sam :)

Hi Tommy...welcome to the board neighbor. It's nice to see a few guys close to the coast here. I'm down in Pascagoula, Ms., not too far from you. If you ever need any parts, or help, let me know. I just might be able to help out. Enjoy your time here and I wish you well on the Comet. These are all great little cars.:)
