Can some of y'all give me your opinion on this short block, the accessories, and the Procyclone heads?? I'm interested in the Part# F120-4000-180 (64cc combustion chamber) (try to get this thing to run on at least premium fuel, you know? ) I'm wanting to get between 500-600 horses out of a 408 on the street. Won't be on the track all that much....:evilsmile I'm just going to build a motor that will make the power that I've always wanted. So please tell me what you all think. Oh- and if there are other short block 408 assemblies that y'all know are good (or better) please let me know. I'm just wanting to do it right. Thanks a bunch!!! Preston

By the way- I would love to have the majority of my power from 1500(ish) to 6500. I might spin it higher at the track, but not on the street which is where I'll be spending most of my time. So if anybody has any ideas on that, please help me out!! Thanks!! Preston

well the heads say 64cc and the shortblock says 11:45-1 with 66cc, so you'd probably be running about 11 1/2-1 compression. i run 11-1 compression and my engine builder reccommended vp 110 (107 octane). i don't think your going to get away with premium from the pump. hp=$:)

Hmmm....... so if I went with a different piston, then I could get the CR down, right?? I just don't know of any other fuel options in my area. I mean, I don't know where to get racing fuel, and since this is gonna be a street car, I would like to be able to run on pump gas. What if I went with a different head that had a larger combustion chamber?? That would help, wouldn't it?? Thanks y'all!! Preston

It should work...Im pretty sure. You could get dished pistons and that would help lower the compression too...unless the crate motor already comes with dished pistons. I also heard from various people that if you trim the piston skirts, it takes unnecessary weight off and helps them last longer...only heard it from a few people.

i would think that if you want 5-600 hp your going to need that compression. as i said i use vp 110. costs me $5.50 from my friend and at the track it's $6 a gallon. i think you can have the 408 and use pump gas but i don't think your going to get the hp you want unless you figure in a supercharger or blower. they use less compression. you might think about calling an engine builder in your area and see what his opinion is. i see engines in the magazines that say they have mega hp and such, but i don't really know how they run as a street vevicle.:)

i agree that it can be done, but probably not with the combination he stated. what compression are you running with the blower? by the way, what was your hp? his combination offered was running about 11 1/2 -1. i've never run a blower but from what i've read the compression has to be a lot lower than that. that's why i suggested he get hold of an engine builder in his area and talk to him. :)

Good advice all around!! (y) I'm gonna get on the phone tomorrow with summit, jegs, Paxton, and then some engine builders here in St. Louis (if they are open on a Sat.) and see what I can come up with. If I can get the CR down to 8 or 8.5:1 with a 408 then I'll do a blower. What's the best (or some of the best in y'all's opinion?) Like I said, I'm gonna make some calls, but I want to get all that I can from y'all since the companies are after all trying to sell their product..... ;) Thanks again folks!! Preston

Here is the site of the guy that is building my 408.

    http://www.badasscars.com/engineprices/fordsb.html

I am not sure if he builds short blocks but I do know that he doesn't care to much for "crate" engines. He's very well respected in the business. He builds these engines to last and not break down after a short while. He also told me that the engine will be able to withstand just over 8500 rpms. I suggest you tour his site and read about the tech tips. Btw, my car will have 9:7 compression. Like you I don't plan on racing at the track. I will also tell you that this thing is going to cost about $9,000 but everything in that motor is first class including the bolts. Of course the most important thing is safety. Anyway that is my 2cents. Happy motoring.

Thanks for the site!! Very impressive stuff there. How much power are you expecting with the CR you will have?? I'm just curious, because that will be just right for the street. Thanks again!! Preston

    How much horsepower?

Your welcome! I will have between 500 and 550. There are some things to boost that up if I have a mind too, for instance adding nitrous or even a supercharger. I'm not trying to be the fastest gun in the west but rather just to have fun. Years ago I was into cars but recently have gotten the bug again and a little money helps. I use to have a 427 side oiler cobra kit car which I sold. Then I had a 1970 428CJ that was owned by Barbara Eden of "I Dream of Jennie" fame, sold that too. Wish I would of kept them but things happen in life as y'all well know.

Btw, I have a tech question that perhaps someone can answer. I am going to run a baby C-6 with manual valve body. What size stall converter would be a good application for this motor? Thanks again everyone for all your help.

I have heard people call a c-6 a baby c-6 but I honestly have never seen one. I've never heard baby c-6 mentioned in any Ford books at all. Are you thinking about a C-4, c-5 or maybe an FMX?
Or maybe a Baby c-6 is just a c-6 with a small block Ford bolt pattern?

There's no respect out there for???????

Comets and Mavs. I just returned from a car show here in Las Vegas and there was not one comet or mav to be found. This was not a big carshow but it had about 150-200 cars I guess. I do hope the "worm turns" on this in the near future. What does everyone else think of this situation?

Now to your question. Yes, it is definitely a baby C-6 (in fact I have two of them) and yes I am sure the bolt pattern is different for the small blocks. The 302 engine I took out had a FMX. I should say that they are getting a little harder to find but they are out there. From talking with tranie men they say the c-6 is one of the best tranies ever made. Lastly, I am glad you liked the site I referred you too. Lots of good stuff there but it does cost money.

Is the baby c-6 a regular 3 speed? Do you have any pictures of it or a drawing of the pan on the bottom?
Sorry to bug you but I am real curious of what a baby c-6 is.

Your not bugging me, I enjoy the dialogue.

I have not taken pictures of it but it is no different than a regular c-6 but smaller, I think? I am going to defer to someone else on the answer to your questions. I know mine is a three speed that I shift.

The term baby c6 refers to the transmissions with the smaller bellhousing that fit behind the small block Fords. They were generally installed behind the more powerfull 351C-4v engines and heavy duty applications.

    Ford Transmission patterns varied
The C6 was offered with a pattern for the late 6-bolt 289,302,351W and 351C
The C6 for FE series 352,360,390,406,427 and 428
The C6 for 385 series 429 and 460 also fit the 351m and 400m which shared the 385 series bellhousing bolt pattern
