My manuals are at home, and I am too lazy to look.

What is the "engine" light an indicator of? Low oil pressure? Overheating? Both?

Mine came on last night in the drive through, but it went back off once I started moving down the road. I didn't go off when I revved the engine, so I am guessing that I am overheating.

Any idea what temp the light comes on?

you might be over heating 200 degrees or so, but check everything out closely...they don't call the idiot lights for nothin, sometimes they come on just to come on. Mine did it for no reason. Thats why I just bought a set of gauges...Jim(y)

Very interesting....both of my cars have a both a "Temp" & an "Oil light"..but no "engine light". Was this different for different years? Never noticed before. Anyway. in addition to the light telling you something is wrong they can sometimes(though wear and tear)ground out and come on by themselves. A simple set of guages is pretty cheap insurance(in my opinion) so I would suggest to grab a set...just to know that all things are as they should be. For my oil pressure, I used both the mech guage and the light..mainly because I can't watch the guage all the time(or I'll crash) and if for some reason it does drop...one of them is bound to catch my eye. Just an opinion of course!

my engine light comes on when ever i'm running a little low on oil but i'm sure it could be temp related in your case sorry probably not much help cause my i6 mav never gets hot.

I believe the '76s(could be wrong on the year) started coming with the oil and temp lights combined into the 'Engine' light. I wonder how much Ford saved by running one less bulb?

Mines a 77 and it has no specific light for either, so I think it's a combo platter.

My light will flicker at low rpm', turn key on for bulb self test and see what lights up.
