    Hey Guys,

Quick question...is there enough room to install the motor/trans together, or do they have to be installed separately? I've never taken them out together or attempted to install them together, but I am getting ready to put them in, and thought that it would sure make my life easier if they would fit.

    Thanks for any help,

    Later,

I highly recommend pulling and installing them as a single unit ... makes life much easier ... yes ... there is room ...

that's the easiest way. i take the tranny crossmember out, then put a jack under the rear of it to lift it and replace the crossmember.:)

I have done it both ways. It is easier to install them as a unit. Just make sure your transmission is empty or you have a plug for the tailshaft.

your best bet with the transmission is to use the yoke from the driveshaft

Much easier putting them in together.
Next time you junk a car, keep the drive shaft yoke. I have a bunch of them just for that reason.

I'll be pulling mine next week ... how do you keep the yoke from slipping out? I have spare yokes ...

Much easier to install as a unit rather than having to muscle the block around in the tight enough engine compartment to get everything to line up. Have done it both ways numerous times. Just make sure the boom on your hoist is adjustable and set further in or else you could get the weight of the assy tipping on you unexpectedly.

Three cable ties 2 of them go through the yoke and around the third which goes around the tailshaft

Anyone have an extra yoke for sale?

I had that happen when I was pulling the motor out of my truck, and it ain't good at all... Learned my lesson the hard way on that one. Luckily the engine was garbage and I'm planning to swap to a '68 grill anyways.

Take the drive shaft off of it. :biglaugh:

Seriously, I just push them in all the way. Never had one fall out and I've put some serious angles on them.

Thanks guys...that's good news. I may get a chance to work on it tomorrow. I'm going to be in the garage until late tonight swapping out the rear. I have the old one pretty much ready to come out...just need to disconnect the flexible rubber brake line and get the parking brake cables out. I'm not looking forward to that ordeal again!

I would be farther along today, but I had to go over and put a new aluminum radiator of mine into my dad's race car. It took a while to get the old one out, and fabricate new brackets, but I finally got finished. I'm going to head back out to the shop after 9:00 and get back after it.

    Thanks for the help guys,

    Later,

yep do it as a unit. I usually jack the front of the car up as high as I can (safely) makes it much easier....but I usually put it in and out by myself.
Once you get the motor almost to the mounts, go ahead and slide the driver side header in there....
