hello 76stallion i live in bath i get over your way once in a while maybe we can do lunch.i am just getting ready to put a 428 into my maverick if i can ever find time to go pick er up.i get all over in my trucking job.looks like you and your dad are doing a real good job on the maverick.i am going to try and put rear disc brakes on mine i just bought a rear axle out of a 96 mustang gt.not sure if they will fit the 9" but it was cheap.being a former chevy addict i don't know much about ford interchanges but its good to find you can learn even at 46 years old.

i think i have a set of those wheels but someone painted over the chrome.not sure if they would be worth rechroming they have rust on them.i've gotta go to the parts yard and get my rear axle i will look through the wheels there.i think i will get the lower trim off the mustang too i think it will look nice on my maverick.some one beat me to the wing.

lol alright thanks burlap. but the rims im looking for arnt chrome. They have this like rough texture to them, with an aluminum rim. They are pretty hard to find but i already have the 2 rear ones and i think they look sweet on the maverick so i want 2 skinny front ones. But if i cant find any like mine im thinking i will have to go with 4 chrome ones.

Arent the 390 inputs shorter than the 289/302 inputs? I thought they would work until the shaft snapped due to lack of support from the pilot bearing? I remember hearing something about that...

At any rate, cool car :)

EDIT: read this starting at the "What are common mistakes..." section. It explains the issue I was talking about. Knew I saw that somewhere...

hmm i dont know what to think. Would it make a difference that we used a roller bearing with the setup instead of the brass one. I know we put grease inside the roller bearing and installed the transmission. then we pulled the transmission out and on the input shaft there was a decent amount of grease on there. So we think it will be fine. but time will tell.

I wouldnt risk it, but thats just me. A toploader 4 speed is VERY tough to find for less than $800 these days. I imagine an input shaft would be significantly less. And you could sell the 390 shaft to make up some of the cost(maybe all of it, who knows).

yea i wouldnt risk it either. But my dad says it will be fine because we checked to make sure it wasnt just riding on the edge and if it was he wouldnt of put it in there. So i guess ill just have to wait and see.

Hmmm, thats interesting to know. Maybe the literature is wrong about the lengths of the shafts. If its not riding on the edge then you must be good to go :)
