Well, the Merc has a wonderful rumble to her now, but she's got this massive smell of gas, and I'm not exactly sure where it's coming from. It's strong inside the passenger area and outside, (under a car port, ) and I can't find any obvious leaks around the carb itself. The engine does not act starved for gas, it's like it's pumping it out the exhaust pipe. Anyone got ideas for what to look at? Please? Before I go bats*it?
your running rich. on the front of your carb there is two screws turn them in to the carb untill the motor starts to shake then turn them out half to a full turn. that should lean it out abit running rich isnt a bad thing but the smell is not so great P.s this is depending on the carb you have sorry some carbs are differnet( if this is a stock or something like a carter, eldebrocl, rodchester, or any of the not so great bolt ons are usely like this) not holleys. One thing to look for is when you step on the gas does black smoke come out if so to much fuel if not if its coming from the back look for a gas leak they are common from the fuel pickup.
