well got back from watchin the drags, let the car sit a while then went to get food, wont start. I charge the battery and make sure i have good connections, batteries already fully charged. Im assuming its the starter but im not sure, it wont turn over it just makes one click n stops
Yeah, it's amazing how bad electrical connections will act like a starter problem. Also should clean up all the connections on the wires on both sides of the solenoid, I scuffed mine with a 50 grit sanding disc. Haven't had a starting issue since.
if you know that everything is good with wires...battery and all that....and it stil wont start ....or sometimes it will start and sometimes it wont start.... then its the starter..i had the same problem with my mav...and someone else ahd the same problem and i suggested the starter and they replaced it and it worked fine....not saying it is a def reason...but its only 2 bolts and a nut...take it in to get tested... its an easy test
Yes ! what Frank said.... if it needs a new starter check out this thread http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=16108&highlight=STARTER
What do you mean by this? Do you lose all power to the vehicle when this happens? If this is the case, this is a battery terminal connection problem and can usually be rectified by pulling off the cable, clean it, put a little grease on the terminal and put it back on good n snug. If you meant that it makes one click and stops but still engaged (still have power to the vehicle) try barring the engine over. If it spins the problem would be the starter, if it won't bar over, well, start by taking the starter out (have seen things get caught between the ring gear and starter drive. If this still doesn't free up the engine, free up all accessories on the ft.of the engine and try again. If still nothing, well.... hopefully it's something simple that was mentioned at the top.
Sounds similar to what happend to me last week. I couldn't bar the engine over either. When I pulled the starter, I had to whack it with a mallet a few times to get it to budge. The gear on it was chewed up and the starter itself was locked up.
Another thing is once in a while you'll get a little corrosion between the starter and the bellhousing, causing your ground to go to pot. Lots of problems like this are nothing more than a bad connection that finally went altogether. The fact that it clicks and then goes dead points to a poor connection. It's connected well enough to complete the circuit, but can't support any substantial amount of current flowing through it.
