Got a thumbs up today... Earl and I went to a couple supply houses today and put well over 100 miles on my orange '77 Maverick. When we were coming down I-85, headed back to Atlanta, I was passed by a new Mercedes CK model. I was doing 80 mph and he passed me. As he was passing, he slowed a little and gave me the thunbs on the Maverick. Then, he was gone. I mean gone. He was not in a slow hurry. Just makes you feel good for another driver to give you the old .
I can't wait for Frank to see this one. Actually, I was wearing an Allen Vigil Ford baseball cap today.
Comeing home from NC the other day, I had to stop at a red light in Ellijay, GA and had a guy in a brand new dark blue Jaguar pull up next to me, roll his window down and ask the classic question of what year it was and said he bought a '73 new and thought mine was cool. Then, yesterday night we went to Dairy Queen and sat out in the parking lot and ate. Some guy in a wheel chair rolls up next to me and started asking about it. Said his mom had a '73 Grabber that she used to take them to school every morning in and that it was fast. Said he hadn't seen a Maverick in years and years. Then, tonight in the Mall Of Georgia parking lot, I parked the car and got out to have 3 guys come up and start asking about it. Terry, your behind. Judgeing by how nice that car looks, you should have had at least 5 give you a thumbs up by now, but here, I'll give you 2. After almost 2 months of driving the car, I am still completely amazed at how much attention this car gets to be such an ugly car.
People down south must just be nicer than they are here in KC. I only get the occasional thumbs up or 'nice car' even with the 40 series delta flows pumping out the volume.
"Some guy in a wheel chair rolls up next to me"...i thought you were going to say he wanted to "race". . terrys car gets more thumbs up when he ain't in it. .frank...
Jamie, I don't drive my Mav as often as you do. Usually, I'm going places with the family (when not driving to work) and that has to be in the Suburban. I'm not aware of a six passenger Maverick.
Terry, I am accustomed to something similiar happening to me . . except it is always a beautiful woman and she blows kisses!
Hmm... Four door, custom seats set diagonally wild custom Maverick mini-limo with a fire breathing small block. Must be the catching up with me. (Cumulative of course. I'm not drinking at 9:45 in the morning just yet.)
Around here, if anyone gives a thumbs up, I usually have to double-take and make sure it was the thumb and not one of the other fingers.
