a tire company is asking me this... but i can't find my OE Manual can't remember where i put it.

    so the question is:

    1. what does the factory say the Maverick's Gross Vehicle Weight is?

    2. what was the stock OE tire size on the 1973 Maverick?

    3. and does anyone know the actual inflation pressure for the tires, per Ford?

any answers would be very helpful! just some redtape i need to go though to replace some tires.

    thanks!!!

    Here ya go:

3896 (with A/C and Power Steering).

    6.45x14. Optional sizes were: C78-14, D70-14 (bias-ply) and DR78-14, ER70-14 (radials). Grabbers came with D70-14.

    So an ER70-14 would be a 195/70R-14. A DR78-14 would be a 185/75R-14. Pretty small tires.
26PSI front and 28PSI rear (it's interesting to me that they list a higher pressure for the rear, being that the front of the car is heavier).

I didn't look in the owners Manual; I got the info from the original stickers in the door jambs...

    From another site:

"Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) Is the maximum recommended weight for a vehicle, including: the weight of the vehicle itself, fuel and other fluids, passengers, and all cargo"

Base Curb Weight Is the weight of the vehicle including a full tank of fuel and all standard equipment. It does not include passengers, cargo or any optional equipment.

Yeah, subtract about 800 pounds from that and you hve the actual weight of the car.

Remove the A/C and install an aluminum intake manifold, and it's even less than that...

Someone, somewhere, at sometime, determined the average passenger weighs 'n' Lbs. I forget the exact number that I was told (~ 140Lbs?), but supposedly, you can subtract the number of passengers times the weight to get close to the curb weight.

    I think.

That was before Playstation. Now the average weight is 250lbs!
