Greetings Jeff! I'm the guy at CarTech that occasionally sent you books to review. Glad to see you landed on your feet. Primedia can be an evil machine. As a matter of fact, we have some Ford related books on the docket that I would like to talk to you about. Give me a call at 1-800-551-4754. Ask for Bob Wilson. T.L. I bought my 550lb 1 inch drop springs at NPD for maybe $75. Even the Eibach's on my 69 Mustang were barely over $100 when they were still made. Where are you getting the $200-$300 number? For $75, there is no way I am going to fry a weekend experimenting with cutting springs. My time is worth more than that.
thanks for the info Jeff.. The shock notching kit has to be used w/ the coil over kit? Why is that? Just wondering...Thanks!
Well, I've seen the Eibach springs for $250+ for third-generation GM F-bodies (my other car) so I naturally assumed that they would also be expensive for Mavericks. Yes, $75 is a very good price, but I still wouldn't want to spend $75 and then not be happy with the height (again, it's trial & error). Takes the same amount of time to cut & swap the original springs, but without the additional cost. So there are really two ways of looking at it. If you bolted-in a new set of $75-$100 springs and got the stance you wanted, then you scored. But there's still no way to know ahead of time if the new springs are going to give you the desired height. You're still taking a risk (mostly risking time, by having to take them back out, cut & and reinstall them or install different ones altogether). Basically, what I'm saying is that it's guess-work either way. In any case, I know that I did mine the cheap (and perhaps "old school") way. I am pretty happy with the result. The alignment shop had no trouble aligning it, and they actually didn't even have to touch the camber (as it was already within spec even after the drop). It may have dropped a half-inch or so more than I originally wanted, but I can live with that...
Jeff, It was great to meet you at the Mustang roundup. I was the skinny guy in the Fikse Wheels shirt. Your products have had me daydreaming ever since. I can see the whole shebang in my future, just can't tell how far in my future.
T.L., because these springs interchange with Mustangs, 550lb and 620lb private label springs are available from a variety of Mustangs shops for under $100. I just looked in the MU catalog and their powder coated 600lb springs are $69.95. As long as you have the front end apart, getting a nice handling spring is always a good deal. Even if you decide to cut them further, you still have a way better spring than the mushy factory ones. Just my take...
Derrick, my best friend worked there as the production manager until they realized they couldn't afford him.
