If everything there is complete, then not much. Compressors are reasonably cheap (usually what goes out) Might have to buy a hose or something if it leaks. Converting it to newer freon doesnt cost much (65 bucks or so) and you might can still get it filled with the old stuff at a local shop (Not sure) Having the shop flush my system, convert it to new freon and charge it was going to cost me around 300 bucks. I priced the parts myself and i could have done it for around 165 bucks.
i can convertit myself.. i have an ac license.. but whats considered as reasonable for a compressor? i dont know why mine didnt work the wire were cut when i got the car
Id find a wiring diagram and wire it back up and see what it does. I only paid 45 or 50 bucks for the compressor. But it was for a GMC truck... but should be close to that price
hrmm.. now ya got me thinking might be worht it to leave it attached to to the motor and see if i can get it tit to work . its a really old big heavy clunky compressor. is it possible to convert the fitting to the newer style? that is mainly why i never botherd to try. p.s. how do you "dress up" an ac compressor? they make chrome covers or something?
I've seen a few pulleys for them that were chrome. Not sure what they fit as I was never interested in them and didn't look to see what they fit. Not sure if you can convert it over to the new compressors or not, but I don't see why not ?? Im not A/C expert, just going by what i've learned first hand
Charlie Ping has a late model (90s) GM compressor. Much smaller, was mounted below the alternator. Considering his is probably 20lbs and the factory is closer to 40lbs, I'm considering it.
A/C is a must in my opinion. My Mav is flat black with black interior, no A/C. From 11 AM - 5 PM I haven't been able to drive the car the last several days it has been so hot. That black car just sucks the heat in and cooks you like an oven. Even going down the interstate with the wind blowing though you can just feel the heat off roof and stuff. I went to get some lunch today around 1 and I almost couldn't breath it was so hot in that car, even going down the road it didn't cool off much. We will have A/C installed sooner or later. Man I can't wait for winter...
