My husband and I just looked at a 72' Comet GT that is for sale. The car needs a ton of work. The body is showing rust all along the bottom of the quarters, doors and fenders. The edge of the hood is rusted through and may not be fixable. The paint is peeling off all over the place. The floor pans are rotted through as well. I never got to see what the trunk floor looks like. It has a 302 but nothing on it is original and it appears to have been hammered pretty hard. The dual exhaust is about to fall off. The interior is in bad shape. The carpet and headliner are gone( as in removed), the bucket seats are all torn up and the rear seat has the foam falling out of it. It has a set of rusty craigers with wide tires and a set of traction bars bolted on it. The car had not been inspected in 2 years. It seems like the owner beat the snot out of it at one time by trying to use it as a race car. All in all, the car is in pretty sad shape, but can be restored. We own a body shop so we are pretty sure it would take around $5000.00 to get this car back in decent shape again. We figured the car was worth around $400.00 just the way it sat. The owner insist that he wants $1700.00 for it as is. We just laughed , told him to keep it, and left. Now I ask you, in your opinon does that car sound like it's worth $1700.00?

Maybe $170! I think $400 sounds too high! But I am one cheap MF! I wish I owned a body shop....

He's living in fantasy land ! If he won't take $250, I'd try to find something else.

I would say $400 is too much.

I agree that $400.00 is too much to offer. We threw that number at him just to see what his reaction would be. I personally think he's been sniffing too many exhaust fumes. We will give it about a month then see if he's come back to reallity yet.

It's a parts car, The body will kill you trying to bring it around. $200 at most, but that also depends on the interior and what you can get out of that. $1700? He needs to get some better drugs.

Sounds like a real turd. Pass on it and look for one in better shape. You can do alot better for $400 dollars.

I have to agree with all of you. This car is a piece of crap best used for parts and little else. It's a shame it wasn't taken better care of but to each his own. I know the guy will never sell it at that price so I expect to find it in the local junkyard some day. It should be interesting to see how long the guy holds out on it before he either finds a sucker to buy it or just plain gives up on it. Thanks to all for your insight.

IMHO no it is not worth $1700. Sounds to me like he's been sniffin too much gasoline, $100 is bout all I figure it's worth maybe $150. Even if the car was driveable i'd be worried about A- Frame damage from the way it sounds it's probably cracked. What he outta do is strip all the usable parts off it and just sell em individually if he wants to make any $$$.

I think that you should keep on looking, unless its exactly what you want. Mavericks and Comets are a dime a dozen here, I dont know about your area, but I've never paid more than $500 for any of ours. Even dad only gave I think $500 for his show-quality original '73 Mav fourdoor.

    Way too much

With it being a PA car, you will probably end up with more rust than is visible. On mine, the upper fender frame rails were rusted out also and had to be redone. If it was a southern car, maybe that much, but go to ebay or hemmings for a better deal.
    There's my 2 cents.

yea definately not 1700. plus with the car being hit there is a possibility the frame might be tweaked.
