9 mph over the limit and you get cited??? damn they are strict in Oregon either that or the cop must have been a real dick. I got nailed once for doing 84 in a 65 but the cop only wrote it for 10 over supposedly cut me a break but I know they just do that so ya don't fight it. So what do you plan to do? fight it or pay it?

I scored myself a 68mph in a 30mph zone ticket back in february. All in all it sucked ass and cost me 95 dollars + court costs (177 dollars total). would i do it again? No... because now i know there is a damn 30 mph sign that was covered by brush with Rosco P. Coltrane and his mutt flash at the top of the hill waiting with ticket book in his left hand and a hustler magazine in his right every day at 3:30pm. I <3 Illinois district 12...

Never just pay a speeding ticket, always go to court. IF you plead guilty, they will give you PBJ and no points, if you have a clean record for the last 12 months. At least thats the way it works here in MD.

    ticket

If you can contact the court, there is usually a phone number someone on the ticket and ask them if you come to court if they can hold it as a local violation so it wont go to your insurance company. You may find out under certain limits it stays in local courts and dont go on your driving record from a state level. In Georgia if it is under 15 mph the courts USUALLY dont send it in becasue the State dont require it. I guess some courts could and if the state would post it then I dont know. The key is if the court can hold it as a local violation and not a state violation and keep it off your driving record and it will make a big difference in Insurance. Most of the courts I have had experience with in Georgia look at your driving history and your attitude in court when making that determination. It would definantly be in your best intrest to try. There again in Georgia I have seen higher speeds negotiated to "Local Ordinance" violations, pay a fine and it stay off the driving record. Unless your State law prohibits it the biggest factor in a Judge making that decision is Your Attitude and previous violation history. Could be worth a try anyway...

    Here in Florida

Here in Florida, we get the opportunity to go to traffic school to "erase" the points from your license. There is a limit as to how many times you can go to "School", but still it helps with the insurance..............

Oops. Got that backwards. First he pulled me over for speeding, then later in the day for going too slow. Guess I couldn't please him either way...

Sorry about that dude! My boyfriend got one for like 5 miles over the speed limit and all he had to do was pay the ticket and go to traffic school (over the web) and it wasn't reported to the insurance company. Check the local laws and make sure that you don't get screwed by going to court. Good luck.

I wish it were that simple here in California, we have traffic school but thats bout it I took that for my first speeding ticket which I was lucky to keep off my record. Unfortunatley because I had one minor infraction (non speeding related) prior to the speeding ticket (Driving without headlights at 6 pm!!) I got screwed but i've talked to people that never had any prior violations got one speeding ticket and got nailed, nice system we have here huh..

best thing to do is don't try and fight it. unless you are going to have a lawyer with you you will most certainly lose if you try to get it thrown out. basicly tell them that you know you were wrong and that you are really sorry. Definatly throw in the fact that it is your first ticket and you are really worried about your insurance. If the judge is cool 9 out of 10 times they will reduce the fine to something that doesn't effect your record or insurance at all. Thats what i did when i got 62 in a 15 (47mph over!!) and they reduced the fine down to exeeding maximum speeds. $50 and no points. not bad when i was looking at $280+, loss of license and a bazillion points

In 1977 I got pulled over for doing 106 mph in a 55 zone. A buddy of mine and I were returning from a fantastic night of drag racing his 66 Chevy II SS at the 1/8 mile track in Keokuk IA. We decided to see how fast we could make it back home to Quincy IL which is approximately 40 miles.
To make matters worse we were both drunk on our butts. So when I saw the lights turn on I just pulled over. Cop was pretty cool and since I pulled over right away he just asked me to step back to his squad car and we would talk. My buddy had been pulled over by a different cop and was escorted back to us, he had tried to run. The other cop left and while the officer was writing me up for 96 in a 55, like I said he was pretty cool and didnt want to write me up for over 100 as I would have to spend the nite in jail. Next thing I know my buddy takes off with his lights off and I am just hoping the cop doesnt notice. It didnt take long, he dropped the car in drive and when we were off the shoulder, there I was, in pursuit and in just a few seconds it was high speed pursuit. It was a mopar 440 cop car like the one used in the blues brothers movie. I was pretty impressed with the performance of the car and told the cop so. He said they had a mechanic that would change the cam and toss a super tune on them even after they were the police editions which were pretty potent anyways. Couple minutes later we caught my buddy. He ended up losing his license. I kept my license but my insurance company quit me. I had been busted a couple years earlier for Drag racing, so this just kinda burst their bubble with me. I had to put my Maverick back in my parents name to get full coverage insurance, and for my winter car, which was the car I was in that nite (71 Plymouth Gran Fury 383 double hump hood car) it cost me $1100 a year for liability insurance. I guess it worked cause I did quit driving at speeds like that. I cant say I have ever quit street racing. I still get into an occasional traffic light to traffic light drag in the Mav.... dont think I will ever grow up and dont think I ever want to!
