Are these heads worth buying?

Guy says the following are marked:

"I looked all over the heads and I found these markings:
    C9OE
    9B14
    and a big "E" and "302" "

These "might be" replacing my stock 74 heads.

Are they worth $200-ish for my application? Just something to set in the garage and grind on for a few weeks before I install, a little porting here and there?

Guy swears they are GT-40P. Are they?

Looks like they are from 1969. If they are that old, they aren't GT40P heads.

He says they are a matched set from a 1998 Ford Explorer, 5.0. GT-40P. I need someone to confirm that model with those markings.

Jamie, you are suggesting that the guys is lyi---er, mis-informing me. If this is the case, I will definitely steer clear of this deal.

    69's

They are 69's, 69 casting number, 69 date code. Un-rebuilt they go for about $50-100 the set. If they were Gt40p's they would be stamped with GT40-p.

This guy is selling a lot of different items, I wonder if when I called, he was talking GT-40 heads, but his ad is for the 69s.

I may have to call him again and just talk GT-40, and have him verify the stamps. Am I looking for 3 bars or 4 on GT-40Ps? And, isn't "GT-40P" marked right on the head?

GT40Ps will have 4 bars cast on the end of the head and "GT40P" cast several places.

this is a 1969 ford casting number and they are NOT from a 1998 Ford Explorer.... if they were a ford explorer they would be F8

    c-1960
    d-1970
    e-1980
    f- 1990??

i wouldnt steer clear of the deal...c9oe heads are gold and in the right setup can produce good power and are BETTER than 1974 heads

You are thinking of 351w heads.
The C9-D4 W heads are the ones to have on a 302.
The C9 302 heads are nothing special, and most likely the exact same heads as his 74s.

actually my GT40P's don't have GT40P stamped anywhere but they do have GTP in a couple of places. four bars on end and F77E, might be F7TE just misread by machinist when he wrote on my receipt. and remember that the factory installed many heads for years after the casting date says. for example, 351W C9OE -D0OE were installed on many cars until 1973. My GTP's were from a '99 Mercury Mountaineer(F9?), the last set of C9's i got were on a '73 Torino Elite

    The C9OE-E is a 60cc head - I like them! :yup:

I may just drive out there and take a look at them myself, and figure out what they are.

I cleared it up...there are two different set of heads we were discussing. One is the GT-40p, the other is the older head.

I might do the GT-40s. Just want to make sure they will fit without too much hassle.

From what I see from P heads is that you will have trouble with exhaust fitment.
My uncle tried to put a set on his Mav and they wouldn't work with his headers.

Do what you want, but I haven't heard very many good stories about the GT40p heads

Other than the fact that all of the Ford small block class racers who are limited to running factory iron heads are using them and setting records.
