Hey guys! Anyone have any advice (from personal experience or otherwise) on swapping in an AOD (1988 in my situation) into a '70 Maverick? Heard people say that the tranny tunnel needs "enlarging." I would like to avoid using the BFH for this particular endeavor, maintaining the originality of the Maverick's chassis. However, for the sake of completing the car, I'm willing to get over myself regarding this last detail.

Also, what changes, if any, need to be done with the flexplate? My understanding:

AOD: 50 oz. balance, 164 tooth.
    C-4: 28.2 oz. balance, 157 tooth.

My engine (1974 302) is balanced for the latter of the above. Sooo... does that mean that the new AOD tranny needs a 28.2 oz., 157 tooth flexplate, or what? :16suspect Please help.

    Thanks guys!

Use a 164 tooth flexplate out of any early car or truck & it should work with AOD converter & bellhousing. don't know about the other issues. Except that when I helped a friend put an AOD into a Fairlane wagon we beat a confession out of it to get it in, then shifter linkage was in way of headers. Make sure that linkage is what you want either pointing up or down have been told it not as easy pulling valve body to put linkage arm in desired position as it is on a C4. Was pointing up on my buddy's then we had to beat a channel for linkage to ride in.
