Not sure where this question should go, so here it is. Does anyone know the function of the round part (in the middle of the picture) ? It sits on the passenger side and is connected via a small tube coming from ??? and with a larger tube going to the aircleaner on the carb. Do I need it? It does not seem to do much. Can anyone tell me what this part does, and if it is essential to have.
It's the charcoal canister for the gas tank vent.. supposed to be connected to your gas tank vent and your air cleaner.
Just use as is ... never heard of somebody replacing it ... I doubt they are still made and NOS ones cost a couple hundred bucks ...
I think that is an emission part that is intended to capture raw gas fumes and direct them to the engine... Dmhines covered the rest. I have always removed them and free vented the tank. I should have kept them for the resto crowd I guess.
thanks guys, I will just clean up this part and put it back when I assemble the car again. Now I also know where the gas tank vent is.
Mines been unhooked since long before I got my car. I just haven't gotten around to takeing it out yet.
I use to have a '72 Chevelle (forgive the "C" word).....It's emission can had a filter on the bottom and I would change it at every other tune-up.....
They dont rob any power and vent gas fumes back into the carb. You really should use it or plug up the line and switch to a vented cap. The cardboard hose is still available from Ford so I would recomend hooking it up and let it do its job. Part # for the hose is D4ZZ9D667A for a 40" piece.
