Hey guys, I have a set of Ford rearend gears and I'm not sure exactly what the fit I thought maybe someone could help me out. I do know they have a 3.45 ratio, and the ring measures 7 inches across the back. :)

    Here's a pic.

    Is the 7" inside diameter?

Hey Dennis, the 7'' is outside diameter end to end across the bottom. :)

An 8" ring gear will measure 8" at the outside diameter of the teeth. I don't believe 8" gears were ever made in 3.45 ratio factory or aftermarket. I have an '83 Ranger with 3.45s in a 7.5 rear.

So I can measure it across the top where the teeth are? That's how I tell what it is?

Yes, just measure the outermost widest part of the gear. I just measured on old 4.11 8" ring gear and that is where I got 8".

Here they are, I would say they are 8'' 3.45's. :)

I'll PM you with more info Simon.

What does the pinion gear look like? Is there a small stub called a pilot sticking out about 1" past the pinion teeth opposite the spline end? The 8" and 9" have this but the 7.5 doesn't.

Can you tell by the first pic I posted at the top? If not I'll go check. :)

From what I can tell it looks like the pinion gear is standing up on a flat end(with no pilot).
