Hey guys, im a newbie here so go easy on me. I just bought a 73 mav with a 250 and i wanna go ahead and swap a 302 in it. I went to a wrecking yard and found a 71 mach1 with the frame stand and motor mounts still attached. Will these work in my mav? The guy said i could have them for $100. Are the frame stands just bolted in or tack welded also? It almost looked like they had some tack welds on there too. Thanks Josh Here's a little info on my car and me. Well, im 21 years old and have owned nothing but rangers since i was 16(6 to be exact). I had to sell my latest ranger due to the purchase of a house. I found this maverick and had to buy it. It's a 73 two door with the 250 and c4 in it. Picked this car up for $450. It has an a/c unit under the dash and the body is in pretty good cond. I'll post pics up soon. Car runs good after i figured out what was wrong with it (two push rods were out from underneath the rocker arms lol)
Howdy and The mustang stuff will not work in the Maverick. They must be from a 71-77 Maverick or Comet. I see them on ebay all the time and some people on this message board sell them from time to time. Good Luck
64.5-66 frame stands and mounts work. 66-70 frame stands with Mav mounts work. 71 is just a little late. Dave Edit: I should mention that they bolt up, but are not the same as the stock Mav parts. Does that make sense?
Thats the first time I ever heard that. Is this from experience? According to my CJ Pony Parts catalog, the frame mount for 65-70 is the same.
Late 65 they went from iron pedastals to clamshell looking frame stands. The clamshells are very close to ours, but bulkier. They are 2 pieces and have a flange that ours don't have. Both types will go into a Mav, the early iron stands are a must with some swap headers, but they use a unique mount that must be used with the pedastals. I have not used the clamshell type, but have seen them used. A guy down the road from me has them in his Mav. He said they have to be clearanced here and there...
i would see about getting the frame mounts from someone on here or ebay. as far as the motor mounts, they can be bought new at napa for about $13 each.
This is what the 66-70 stands look like. The are the same as ours in just about every measure, except overall bulk due to the flanges. They fit over our frames and into our mounts. I did some follow up and the guy I know that used them also used the Stang mount. That is why he had to mod the parts. Different angle, showing Stang mounts which are taller than ours. Gonna add more pics! These are the early Falcon/Stang frame stands: They bolt up to the Mav, then use the early Stang mounts with a single stud that goes through the slot in the stand. These are semi adjustable. Here are the isolators: They were used on SBFs until Nov 65, which is roughly half way through 66 model production. Between these and the iron frame stands, there is a steel tab that provides some adjustment. This is a more compact setup. Dave
They are downright reasonable on eBay. Otherwise, they are repoped and sold through Mustang resto shops online, but they cost more that way than digging up Mav stands somewhere. Dave
