Replacing Oil Sender Unit.....

    1972 Maverick Grabber - Color: Orange Also, 1976 Ford Maverick 4-door, 1977 Mercury Comet 2-door.
    How do you remove the oil sending unit off of a 302 V-8? Does it take a special socket? I tried a 12-point 15/16.......didn't want to "grab".

    Channel-Lock pliers. You'll have to remove the oil filter to get them in there...

    Pretty sure a 12Pt fits it ... not sure of the size. I have the extensioin that screws into the block and then the sender screws into that ...

    I recently replaced mine and yes auto part stores do sell a special socket relatively cheap. Also had to buy some extra plumbing to have the electrick sender come up above the fuel pump.

    If you are tralking about the light type instead of the gauge type, then yes, there is a special socket. Most people find a way without it though.
