I want to change the distributor on my 70 MAV (170 I6) from points to some type of electronic system. What is the easiest route and how complicated is it? Mind you, this is just a temp thing until I can find the perfect 302 for a swap, so I don't want to break the bank on it. Thanks

JLB; the easiest is the Pertronix Ignitor. It takes about 10 minutes to install, and in 5yrs I have never had a problem. They cost about $69 at any of the Mustang houses, or AutoKrafters. Good luck!

I've been doing some research and I think this (pertronix) is the way that I will go, but I'm unclear if the coil needs to be replaced also, or can I run stock?

JLB; you can run the stock coil, but Pertronix recommends a high performance coil to get the best performance. I don't know the specs, but Pertronix, Accel, MSD and all the ignition parts mfg. have one, and they aren't too expensive. I have an Accel, yellow coil, and it was $24.95. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

In the Pertronix instructions they will tell you how many ohms resistance the coil needs to be to keep from burning up the module. That info can help you choose a coil. You can run a coil with less resistance but you have to add a ballast resistor in series to keep from overheating the Pertronix.
