I finaly got a good starter on my mav last week so I could start up the engine with the new carb and intake. I hooked up a fully charged battery then got in the car to start it just to hear the starter relay click . I tried turning the engine over with a breaker bar but I couldn`t. Well I prolly could but I didn`t want to pull too hard and damage something . What do you guys think I sould do to fix it ?

    Thanks

So the engine was running before you put the new carb and intake on? How long ago was this? Did a bunch of water go down one of the intake passages and fill a cylinder? Sorry for a bunch of questions and I'm not trying to be a smartie pants...seems like there should be more to this story. Do you think the starter got jammed in the gear? With the plugs in the engine takes a good amount of grunt to roll over.

Pull the plugs and try turning over by hand. That would drain any water that might be hydrolocking a cylinder. You can go counterclockwise and the only thing that could happen is the harmonic balancer bolt will come loose. If you rule out the the engine actually being froze there are several electrical problems that could cause the relay to click. Hope so - because the fixes are all cheap. Corroded terminals, bad wire, bad starter solenoid, bad ground wire. etc,

the starter could be too long.... or... the solenoid could now be bad...

but yeah.. take the plugs out... turn over by hand.. if it will not turn over... remove intake since that was what oyu were working on...

Something definately isn't right if you can't turn it at least a little with the breaker bar. First thing I would do is pull the starter out.

When I swapped the transmission in my '74 back in June, I got it all back together and went for a test drive. When I got back to the house I shut it off and tried to restart. It just clicked, and I couldn't turn it with a breaker bar either. Turned out to be a jammed starter.

I did an intake swap once on Dad's car....302 in a Fairmont...we used a RPM Air gap intake and tried to use the FelPro 1250 gaskets. They don't work. They'll fill the motor with water.

sorry for the rambling, but it just might give you some insight.

I drained the coolent before I removed the old intake and I have yet to refill it . The starter has been tested all the wires are clean and the stater relay is new .

When I first tried to start the car the motor did turn a little but it wasn`t a full turn .

If I get time I`ll mess with it this weekend :) .

It could be an object (nut, bolt, etc.) that fell in during your swap and is now on top of a piston.
