Well I have a 73 Comet GT. Besides the stripe and the hood scoop, was there anything else different from a non GT Comet?? Have no real reason to ask , just curious...
The interior was different. The bucket seats were a one piece with headrest. The door panels had a vinyl woodgrain insert, with the Mercury logo chrome piece (round) attached to it also. Usually done in popular black...The rearend around the taillights & tailight bezels were blacked out. The grill & headlight bezels were blacked out. Chrome pieces around the wheelwells, sport mirrors. And if you were lucky, factory aluminum mag wheels, with the Mercury Logo in the center cap...
To answer the question ... the only thing unique to the GT was the Hood Scoop and black stripe treatment. Everything else was availabe on standard Comets ...
The dash area in the center around the instruments was blacked out like the Grabbers. In '75 the seats were changed to the lower rise buckets with non-integrated head rests. Forged wheels were only available in '73-'75's with magnum style wheels being the std. wheel for '75 from what my research shows. Std. hubcaps or plain dogdish caps with bright trim rings were the only choice in '71 and '72.
ok..so the hood scoop i got, the orginal orange interior i am keeping in . The wheel openings are damaged pretty badly.I believe my gauge cluster is also orange and not black..was just curious. Thanks for the replies
Orange interior...correction? I went back and looked at some of my pics of orange interior cars. I found 2 original orange '74 GT cars that did not have the black around the instrument panel-it was orange. Below is a '74 Grabber with no black around the instrument panel. Perhaps it was an orange only change, or maybe it showed up in '73-the first year that I have seen orange interior. '74 is the only other year that I have seen it. Of all the orange interior pics that I have, they all have black dash pads. Seth
So what your saying is the insturment cluster in my '74 Grabber was black from the factory? My car had green interior. Has anyone noticed that the silver part of the gauges on some Mavericks have a blueish green tint to them? I have 2 clusters that are blueish green looking in the center and 2 that are just silver.
I think all the hood scoops on the comet gt's were for looks only. They don't really sit up high enough to "grab" the air. The blunt front end seems to push the air up over the scoop.
